I returned them to Activinstinct on the 21st of November who promptly lost them. they finally found them today the 7th of December but apparently it takes them 14 days before they can run a test to see if these GORETEX trainers are letting in water. I think what they should do is look at the pictures i sent them and then apologize for the inconvenience this has caused me and promptly offer me a replacement.
I'll be lucky if i get a waterproof pair of trainers by 2019 at this rate!!!

In terms of performance, the lugs are good and grippy - I run on all kinds of trail terrain from muddy, rocky, wet, lose, and the only terrain I am wary of grip on are large, flat wet rocks. The lugs are however pretty soft so you will find them wearing down quickly if you run on road - I would say these shoes are strictly for off road trails. Also as I am a heel striker the lugs on the heel wore down quicker than I'd like - would have been nice to see a more sturdy heel section at the back something like the adidas TERREX Swift R. The same would be true for the side lugs if you under/over pronate. Even though they are they GTX version, I can't say I found the shoes to be very water proof at all - without feeling that water had gone into the top of the shoe, the shoe was still wet through at the end of the run right to the toe. The lacing system is good, not had any problems so far and the little 'pocket' on the tongue you can tuck the excess lace into once tightened up works well and gives you confidence you are not going to have the excess lace catch on say something on the terrain, or a lug on the other shoe as the lace is tucked right out the way.
Would I buy them again? Maybe. If I tried on the next size up and the fit seemed a lot better and less thin in the toe box I might be tempted, but with running a lot of trails, and living in an area that sees a lot of rain getting a goretex shoe was definitely a strong consideration and unfortunately it doesn't really cut it in this department for me. So I haven't found my perfect trail running shoe in the Speedcross 4 GTX, but for some people this shoe is probably perfect for them. Ultimately after 250km I am on the verge of buying a different trail shoe to replace this one and not considering another pair of Speedcross 4's at the moment. Normally I would hope to get as a minimum 400km out of a shoe before buying a new one.
They fit perfectly (size 10) and the insole fits my foot arch very nicely (normal arched feet) and overall feel perfect on my feet.
These are clearly intended for off road / trail running due to the tread. However, having done some street runs with them, I felt steady and had plenty of grip in dry and wet. They however perform exceptionally on a trail surfaces, I'm sure their are better suited versions of these shoes for road runs if that's the only purpose you need them.
Overall, highly recommend. I'm not sure I'd pay over £100 for them as that seem to be their retail price, but certainly worth it below that price.
