The Safety 1st Flat Step is a baby stair gate with extra-thin step over bar that avoids any trip hazards, especially when the safety gate for children is installed on top of the stairs. Easy to use and incredibly safe. The wide stair gate Safety 1st Flat Step has an extra-wide walk-through section and can be opened with a single hand. Simply squeeze the buttons on the handle to open the gate and slam or push it to shut. The visual indicator will confirm whether the stair gate is safely closed. Children not at home? Easily leave the stair gate open, thanks to its convenient stay-open mechanism. Besides its ergonomic handle, the Safety 1st Flat Step is extra wide to make it comfortable to walk through. Open the safety gate in one or both directions, depending on the location where the baby gate is installed. Installation requires no drilling and consists of a simple pressure-fit for a solid fit. Extend the Safety 1st Flat Step with the specially desigend Safety 1st gate extensions to fit larger openings (sold separately). Safety 1st offers a range of 7cm or 14cm gate extensions, to extend the Safety 1st Flat Step up to 101cm. WARNING: When the gate is removed from the packaging, the gap between the frame and the handle is part of the design. I read many reviews and even if the average was 4.5 stars when I bought this I was still afraid that this gate was really difficult to open with one hand, well short review here, it is nice, sturdy, well designed and easy enough to open with one hand.

This gate is very nice, smooth bars with no accentuated corners which might hurt the baby if he crash on it.
The gate can be left open pushing it 90 degrees in each direction.
There is are also 2 small plastic flaps which you can move to decide if the gate can open in all directions or only inward or outward.
The threshold has a low profile and is rounded at the edges, this will allow me to vacuum clean easily and still use the robot to independently clean the floor.
Assembled with no screws nor stickers, I just applied to my door frame and tightened it as shown in the instructions, very easy, after I also tried to move it, and I can confirm is not going anywhere.

Highly recommended.

Firstly the gate itself is very good and sturdy, I have no doubt that it will do the job we bought it for. The locking mechanism is very secure and there is no way our son could unlock it...
But I am very disappointed in what looks like yellow stains all over the plastick parts of the gate, it looks so bad in some areas I thought it may have been a reject. Unfortunately we need this in place straight away so cannot go through all the returns and re-buying but it is a disappointment

I can’t recommend this product enough and below are reasons why
1. Comes in small packaging but has everything you need
2. The Amazon page of the product has an installation video which is very easy to follow and you’ll have the gate installed within 15 minutes
3. The 3m stickers it comes with are very strong. I had to remove one and pasted it again and it held very strongly
4. The gate opens both ways
5. This is a flat step one and our baby easily crawls through it with no issues whatsoever
6. Due to its flat nature you can install it in the stairs above
7. The stickers can attach to a wall or a bannister just as well.
My only gripe with the product is if it came in different colours. Grey, black and oak colours would be welcome.
