In this concise new booklet, Rosenshine fan Tom Sherrington amplifies and augments the principles and further demonstrates how they can be put into practice in everyday classrooms.
The second half of the booklet contains Rosenshine's original paper Principles of Instruction, as published in 2010 by the International Academy of Education (IAE) - a paper with a superb worldwide reputation for relating research findings to classroom practice.
Together with Sherrington's insightful and practical guidance, it forms a powerful booklet that no teacher can afford to be without.

Experts and consultants, one would hope, gain their status by offering new ideas or coming up with innovative solutions to problems. This 'book' (at almost £10 for a mere 42 pages, it must be pointed out that it is little more than a pamphlet) does neither. It offers a jumble of pedagogical tips and anecdote filed under each of the Rosenshine's original principles (I hope the man himself is getting a hefty cut!). The real gold is in the reproduction of the work of Rosenshine himself, which has been printed in the final 20 pages of this text. Top tip: Rosenshine's article is available free online. For even the novice teacher, it is surely better to read, think about and discuss the original with colleagues than to waste your time and money on this, at best, tepid interpretation of it.
If the original is available for free, it makes you wonder what the motivation for writing this was.....cha-ching!
I would say look online where this is summarized anyway. You don’t need the book. Although if you want the book, it’s teeny tiny so it’s not gonna take up much room!
The book also includes by way of appendix Rosenshine’s pamphlet on the 10 principles. As a school leader I can not recommend this book more highly.
I would say to any trainee teacher or tutor, buying this book and the workbook will really help you. It’s a valuable tool to keep by your side at all times. It’s small enough to fit in a bag and trust me this will be with me for a long time.
Also check out the authors master class on YouTube, this book follows it very well. Well done Amazon on acquiring this title. It should be a teachers best seller
