I haven't built a model since the 1970s and fancied something to occupy me during lockdown. I didn't like the idea of glue and paint, too much smell and mess, so a push-fit wooden model seemed like the ideal choice.
The kit arrived in a slim packet which contained four sheets of ply, a sheet of instructions and a tiny piece of sandpaper. I'd done some research and made sure I had a few basic tools, including some files (see my review on those), plus a craft knife and a pair of pointed nose pliers that I already had in the garage. I used them all, particularly the craft knife - the parts are laser cut in the ply and most simply push out, but the knife helps with those parts that are reluctant to come free.
I took my time and found the whole process straightforward and enjoyable. Spares are provided of the most fragile parts but I managed not to break any, although I came close a few times. Some parts are very small, too small for my large fingers, and the pliers were essential to hold them securely. Some parts were a very snug fit but with a bit of gentle sanding or filing everything slotted together nicely - with hindsight a bit of candle wax rubbed on would have perhaps been easier.
The model took around six hours to complete and looks grand sitting on my sideboard - see photos. The wheels rotate so it'll push (gently) along but that's it - no working suspension, steering etc.. But I wanted something simple to start with and having built this one, I feel confident to move on to something more complex for my next project.
In summary, if you're new to push-fit wooden modelling this is an ideal starter kit.
