Product description
Easy Setup
Our Pro model is a plug and play VPN router pre-configured to simply plug into your existing network and connect. Once connected you can manage the routers' VPN location, WiFi details and more direct more direct from web dashboard..
Super Fast WiFi
Our Pro model runs dual band WiFi (unlike our Lite model). Therefore video streams faster via WiFi, which is great for FireSticks as they perform a lot better on 5G WiFi.
14 Days Free
Included in box is 14 days VPN access to hundreds of servers. Our VPN network is rated top on Trustpilot (www.libertyshield.com)
Low Cost Subscription
Our VPN packages allow you to connect all your devices inside and outside your home. Get your first year for as little as £4.18 a month!
Security with Fast Speed and Zero ISP blocking!
Routers are configured to encrypt your internet traffic with 256bit AES security. We own our VPN network (unlike the other VPN router providers on Amazon!). Our network is log free, so nobody can monitor your internet history. We do not throttle the connection, so you get full bandwidth on the VPN and no buffering.
Netflix, iPlayer, IPTV and more!
We are proud to say our VPN network works perfectly with all streaming sites.
Trusted hardware!
The router supplied is a Mikrotik RouterBoard hAP AC2.
It has 5 x Ethernet ports, 1 x USB 2.0 port and high power 802.11b/g/n wireless AP with antennas built in.
The device is small but very powerful; with quad core CPU for faster performance. It has more than enough power to run perfect HD or FHD video streams on your FireStick, Mag Box or zGemma.

There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later.
First problem activation.. it wouldn't accept my Gmail account so I had to use another email address, I contacted support but as I've found the 365 support is only by email as every time I've tried to contact them they aren't there
Secondly speed.. I have a 50mbps fibre connection, and I'm getting 3mbps with a ping of over 200 and jitter of around 35ms
I can stream video in standard blocky format and the stream buffers as a consequence of the poor connection
I'd like to end on a plus point but I can't, overall a complete waste of £56
Didn't use the VPN, (did try, just wasn't happy to enter card details just for the trial). Reflashed it with RouterOS using netinstall and got back to OEM setup.
2.4&5ghz coverage is better than the HH5 I was using as an AP, and it has more flexibility than you will ever need, might even replace the R7800 as the main router.
If you are reasonably it savvy and have an idea about static IP and subnets then connecting it to a PC to reload the oem operating system setup then it's ideal.
However, for anyone wishing to use this Router not with a VPN service OR wish to use another VPN service of their choice, then follow youtube video for "Password Recovery on MikroTik Router by re-installing the RouterOS" by MAICT consult. This will show how to (Netinstall) the original Mikrotik firmware. Follow the video exactly.
This router replaced our ASUS RT-AC56U (with Tomato software) it offers wifi speeds between 1.5 to 2 times that of the ASUS. It is highly configurable & while Mikrotik support is limited, their is excellent expert support on the Mikrotik forum.
From a feature set value perspective, this is an excellent router.
I requested they turn off wifi as this is not a user configurable option, and I only wanted Ethernet connected.
Initially this request was met, but then it reverted to wifi, later the box was hacked, to disable its function.
Months later I found out I am paying a subscription service which wasnt in fact working as advertised.
Don't waste your money, no security with this provider.
I never used Liberty Shield's VPN service so can't vouch for the VPN service itself or its configured state out-of-the-box. Please read other reviews if the pre-configured VPN is your use case.
As I bought this for the sole purpose of using it as a home router and not a VPN device, I used Netinstall to clear the router's configuration and update it to the latest version of RouterOS. This is because you can't administrate this router as the admin user password is unknown to you.
Once it's unlocked, you get the exact same RouterOS software that Mikrotik offers across their entire product range. RouterOS is not for the faint of heart, if you're used to easily configurable UIs for setting up home routers then be prepared to spend a few hours reading and watching videos about networking and
how to use RouterOS. With the confusion comes a lot of powerful configurability though.
Some benefits of this router (compared to home routers found in this price range):
- Each Ethernet port is individually switched, and is capable of 1Gbit *each*. A lot of other routers have a common switch for all LAN Ethernet ports + a Ethernet port for WAN, meaning you can't isolate a port from another port (e.g. for IoT Devices).
- It has a built-in VPN client (hence why it's a VPN router). You could have a Wifi network that is backed by a VPN so when you want to jump onto a VPN, just change your Wifi network to the VPN wifi.
- 2x2 MIMO WiFi. Not 3x3, but still pretty good. (Your internet might be the bottleneck past 2x2 on the 5GHz band anyway).
- Useful diagnostic features like packet sniffing, Wifi spectrum analysis, and ping/traceroute built into the router itself.
- Has a iptables-like firewall.
- Has DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH) support built-in for encrypted DNS queries (this is how your ISP knows which sites (not individual pages) you're going to, as plain old DNS is unencrypted)
- Has Wifi multi-SSID support i.e. can set up Wifi networks with different names e.g. for VPN, for guests, for IoT etc
- Seems to be reliable. Mine's been up for 89 days now, and it hasn't blinked once, even at my max download speed of 350Mbps.
- Barely uses its CPU - I guess the CPU will prove to be useful when using features that doesn't support hardware-offloading i.e. features that require the CPU to work.
- Has a command-line terminal with auto-completion! Every operation performed on the router has an equivalent command, so you can write scripts to automate things. You can also schedule execution of scripts with the task scheduler.
- You can send Wifi disassociation packets to an individual Wifi device. I find this useful for booting a device off the 2.4Ghz network which usually makes it go onto the 5Ghz network for higher speeds
- You can add comments to a lot of things in the UI, e.g. "wlan0" has a comment of "[My Wifi Name] 2.4GHz" so I know which band that interface is for
- It has an Android app, which supports nearly everything that the Winbox Windows app and the Webfig web UI can do - it's a bit clunky though as the UIs are designed for keyboard/mouse.
I've included a screenshot of the Winbox Windows app.
Please understand that while there is a community of RouterOS users out there, if you get stuck, you might find it a bit difficult to get an answer in a reasonable timeframe, or maybe not get an answer at all. Mikrotik themselves are quite unlikely to help you if you contact them directly, and Liberty Shield will only support the router in its out-of-the-box/locked state. You have been warned.
I'm happy with this router. But I'll say again - if you're not proficient with networking or if you don't have the time to learn RouterOS - then please understand that this may not be the router for you.

Well pleased so far I can now cancel all these daft VPN's I have on all my gadgets not even sure I was really connected to them half the time.
