Wow....that pretty much sums up this book! After reading it to him on demand about 2 or 3 times a day for a couple of days he decided to use the potty! I therefore cannot cannot recommend this book enough!
It's well written and talks about all aspects of potty training from who wears nappies, choosing a potty, accidents and hygiene. The illustrations are bright and colourful.
Admittedly the "cheering" sound button wears a bit thin after the umpteenth time of hearing it for the umpteenth time but I'm prepared to put up with it after the success story that this book has played a significant part in.
Our thanks go to the author and illustrators for their 'magical' words and pictures.
"A-R-R-H it be a fine book indeed for young potty training shipmates"

After 6 months of faffing around and failing completely to spark any interest in the potty, we bought this brilliant book out of sheer desperation. Our little guy was already familiar with Pirate Pete through another book in the series, so this one immediately caught his imagination, and within 2 weeks he was clean and dry. No fuss, no tears, and just a couple of accidents.
The big attraction of the book is its interactive approach, which includes a ‘cheer’ button on each spread. It talks about going shopping to choose a potty and grown-up pants and getting used to sitting on the potty before starting to use it. It also explains about ‘potty rules’ and toilet hygiene and the inevitability of sometimes having accidents.
The book is a sturdy hardback with thick board pages, and the illustrations are colourful and appealing.
I would highly recommend buying this book and taking the time to look at it with your child a good while before actually starting potty training. This way, he can get involved in the process and know what to expect when the time comes. When he’s ready (and all kids are different), it should be a straightforward transition.

Just like Pirate Pete does in the book, my son chose his own potty and picked his own pants (we had a shortlist of both incase he picked anything mental) and this gave him a sense of importance and independence
When my son did his first poo in his potty he couldn't wait to tell Pirate Pete which was adorable. Such a simplistic yet effective book that I will be using again in a few years for potty training my newborn son.... Just like Pirate Pete does in the book with his little brother.
