Personally I think that these handles and heads are effective at removing dental plaque, but not quite as well as a similar oral b product does. Both products use an ultra sonic cleaning method to vibrate the mono filaments in the brush head to vibrate dental plaque away. The difference in my view is that the oral B uses a stiffer fibre and more importantly, which the ultra sonic level is lower, the oral b incorporates mechanical cleaning as well. In this regard I have tested this Bruch and handle using dental disclosing tablets, which strain the translucent dental plaque to make it more obvious. I found that the Philips brush and head to be effective, but not as effective as the equivalent oral b product.
So why did I purchase this brush? I alternate between this brush and my oral b Bruch as I find that the softer brush head and less mechanical brushing process is more comfortable for my teeth where I suffer dental hypersensitivity.
They all get exactly the same problem - the vibration gets so weak that it no longer cleans my teeth. For some of this it started getting weaker even before 1 year old, but by 2 years is really weak. For at least one of them this happened fairly suddenly.
Therefore there seems so be a design fault. I can see online that many other people get the same issue. This is an expensive toothbrush, and it is not acceptable for them to consistently break so soon.
Philips, please sort out this problem!
Generally, this product doesn't last long and are more like disposable
toothbrushes then something we use to call electronic device. 4 out of 5 toothbrushes developed an issue where they had just did not move too fast and strong enough to clean properly but still there was some movement and the user just don't notice it straight away (until one day then you use a new Philips Sonicare toothbrushes or is so bad that can be ignored).
But in the case of Philips Sonicare DailyClean 3100 it just stopped working after 8 months for this I would give it 2 stars but in comparison to my previous Sonicare toothbrushes, this one was the low budget option (lesson learned) and was not equipped with "sensor" that minimize the power when pushed too hard, this effect in massive gum pain and in general was not too comfortable to use (bulky) for this reason that I think is just degrease and really bad made I will give it 1 star and highly advice everyone to stay away for this particular model. For Philips Sonicare in general the quality of cleaning is great and just you need to be prepared to change more often than you are used to and as they are so much expensive that is a big factor to consider.
Update:
Battery last for 5 days. Mush shorter then premium models.
Firstly, with 2 mins usage twice a day it took over 24 hours to recharge the battery - and that is with weekly recharging!
Secondly, the body of the 3100 is quite large. Higher spec models are much thinner.
Thirdly, the toothbrush lasted less than 17 months before it finally gave of the ghost. What a waste of money!
My advice? Look for higher spec models when they are heavily discounted.
