Because a neighbour insists on feeding pigeons, seagulls and squirrels small birds do not get a look in. I have tried many other bird feeders for small birds such as those that has suckers and stick onto glass. One example is at: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07K9DNV2Z/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The problem is that bird, especially hungry birds, will do almost anything to get food and I have seen pigeons fly into even the smallest, static, bird feeders such as the one mentioned above.
This bird feeder is different it consists of two main parts. 1) an inner core where the food (seeds) is held and 2) and large outer shell with small access holes. These holes are to small for large birds to get into. The feeder if shaped like a flattened sphere so birds cannot land on it. As it hangs from hook and is not near a wall or fence it moves making it very difficult for squirrels - but they keep trying!!
So far I have seen robins, blue tits and some other small birds I can't identify feeding from this clever device.
The only downside, so far, is that the small birds often cause some food to fall out of the feeder and the pigeons and sitting below just waiting for their next meal. I am trying to find a way to stop that happening.
All in all this is the best small bird feeder I have come across so far and despite some large birds 'taking advantage' at least small birds now have somewhere to get food.
