A great idea, but won't work for all dogs. I have a very stomach driven puggle and with food inside the unit, he proceeded to paw away until he eventually moved the timer and got the feeder to open. He repeated his new trick several times to prove how clever he was. Back to the drawing board for timed feeds around my shifts.

We feed wet only and got one of these because it has an ice pack. We use it for mid-night feeding to keep the beast at bay - also for when we take day trips. The biggest negative is the battery situation. There's no indicator that the battery is low - it'll just not open. In fact, I would bet that most people who left a review that this item doesn't work, just had a low battery, and I say that because it happened to us too. We thought it was broken until we replaced the battery. You can hear it ticking so you think it's working but it just won't open when the time comes. If you're planning to use this when you take a trip, just be sure to put a brand new battery in there before you go.

With that said, it's a fine little device. It gets the job done. No the timing isn't 100% accurate as it's done by hours, but it's close enough. If I go to bed at 10pm and set it to go off in 5 hours - it'll go off AROUND 3am - and the food will still be cool. It is meant to keep the food cool for six hours - obviously that depends on how warm of an environment it's in. For us, it happens to work. But again, if you're going on a long trip, it won't keep the food cool very long. Would recommend if your needs are fairly basic.

Good, but not an accurate timer

It's great if you only have one cat, or if your cats are in separate rooms. Once you try to feed two cats with the timer, things don't quite go to plan. The timer isn't accurate and therefore one cat ends up eating both portions! (Or so they told me when I got back from work...)
It's accurate give or take an hour.
Easy to clean as the little pans lift our easily. I'd be wary of using the ice pack with my kitten as he loves to chew anything and I'd worry he'd chew the ice pack and poison himself! (The food pan could be easily knocked aside by a well placed paw!)
If I just had one cat, or cats that only eat their own food then it would be 5 stars. I've had to deduct one for the accuracy of the timers meaning that with multiple feeders it's impossible to synchronise them.
If it's vitally important that your cat eats at a certain time due to medical issues, this would also be a problem.

My old catmate auto feeder conked out, I was devastated, my cat was even more devastated because that meant no food when he gets the munchies at 2am and again at 5 am. Do I get jumped on, run over and smothered all night if he’s not fed? Yeeees! An auto feeder is imperative for my mental health. I’d run across burning coals to save my cat. I’d fight to the death if anyone tried to steal him, but am I willing to get out of bed twice in the night for him? You must be joking. I need an auto feeder! This feeder is as accurate as the one that conked out, which means it’s not accurate. Put it on to open in one hour and it might open in 45 minutes, or it might open after the hour, it’s not perfect, but it does open, so that’s all that matters. The batteries are extremely tight, which I hate because I take them out so it’s not ticking all day long, and to remove them I have to pull them out with a nail file! Yes, they’re that tight. Would I buy this feeder again? Yes, as a spare, but it’s not my favourite one.

Quite a basic feeder

Some auto feeders are hugely expensive so I was hoping this would be a good cheap alternative. It's okay but is quite basic. I bought it for 2 cats but because the timers can't be set precisely one feeder always pops open before the other and the greedy cat gets the food before waiting for the other to open and eating that too! I also couldn't find a way of stopping the ticking countdown without taking the batteries out so everyday the batteries come out and the feeder is forced back into the box to stop the doors from staying open the whole time.

It works and doesn't cost the earth like some others but it is not the best.

Our cat was driving us crazy in the mornings. Somehow, her schedule got mixed up, and she started wanting her morning portion of wet food at 5am! Incessant yowling and running leaps on us in bed were not a good start to our day—nor for our neighbours!

This feeder was a godsend! Before bed, I place the food in it with the provided gel cooler pack. The timer dial measures number of hours, and when it gets to zero, it springs open. I’m not sure if it opens at the exact set time (we’re usually still blissfully asleep at that point), but it’s quite accurate give or take a few minutes. The cat now gets her food early in the morning, leaving us in peace to get up when WE decide ;)

Don't waste your money.

At first it was fantastic, put the batteries in, heard it ticking away. Worked a treat for the first few weeks and then noticed that I would come home and one of the lids weren't open and were still showing 4 hours. Thought it was me not setting the timer properly. Then started setting the timers to the same hourly interval to test them and found one to be out of sync and run slow. This got worse and worse. Tried new batteries, tried to reset it and nothing. Now only 1 of the compartments works, doesn't always open at the correct time so have wasted £20 when I should have kept that money and ordered the more expensive electronic automated feeder.
