Whenever I see Gills name on a cookbook, it's a no brainer for me. It's bought in the same breath & then slowly devoured.

His first being quite possibly my all time favourite of an extensive collection, this one is definitely fighting for first place too.
I have always adored cooking outside, it's a terribly fun way to cook ones meal, and this book is packed with recipes that I just want to make . Pictured was his glorious Blue Cheese Celery Salad, which has become a week night staple in my household. Buy this immediately!

I've been a huge fan of Gill's writing and recipes ever since his wonderful first book 'Gather'. Yet, until now I have rarely made moves into the world of outdoor cooking, mainly because I didn't really know where to start. In the world we live in nowadays with, seemingly, 4 trillion people online telling you 8 trillion ways of cooking outdoors/lighting a fire/positioning your coal, the barrier to entry for an outdoor cooking novice (like me) is high!

However, since receiving this book on publication day I have not only been inspired to give outdoor/fire cooking a go, but I have already built my first fire and have already made a couple of the recipes from this book: fire baked wet garlic, and onions cooked on coals, which I baked in the coals of my outdoor fire whilst a gorgeous pork chop was gently cooked on the grate.

'Outside' is a magnificent book, not only through how it looks (the photography by Andrew Montgomery is stunning), but the content is inspirational in spades: Gills way with words makes reading the book a joy, and the stories he tells around each and every recipe in the book immediately makes you want to drop all worldly tasks and build a campfire! I have a LOT of recipes left to cook from 'Outside' but I can tell that this is going to be a book that will be by my side for the long term, an outdoor cooking companion....of sorts!

Bravo Gill, this is a superb book, thank you for inspiring me to get outside and explore outdoor cooking.
