Baby shower, Christening or “just because you care”? Step away from the overpriced “baby’s first tooth” rubbish and don’t concern yourself with keepsake baby booties! Just buy a butt load of these books and keep them in the cupboard. Every time your mate drops a little sproglet, dig one out and write a touching message in the title page. Just make sure you spell their name right…
Of course it became very real to me then, and I took it to my granddaughter, as this is such a celebrated author and I wanted her to experience it, from my perspective at the time, as we were all waiting hoping the operation would be a success. It was.
I bought it again last week, as three years on I was waiting to buy a kitten, after my little ginger girl cat died at 5 years old of liver disease. It got me through those awful months when I was waiting, saving and hoping I could get another ginger kitten that would bring me the love and the happiness, she did.
On Easter Sunday 2021 I got a beautiful little ginger kitten who brings me so much happiness and I hope I bring him; I truly believe this part of the book helps everybody who is waiting for something to happen for them.
However, if like me you are more of a realist than an optimist, you will particularly like the notes of caution and realism peppered amongst the positivity. My favourites: 'Un-slumping yourself is not easily done.' And: 'Step with care and great tact and remember that Life's a Great Balancing Act.'

Whether your child is 6, 16, 26 ..... It says almost everything you would wish to say about their journey through life.
I first came across this at a conference for entrepreneurs, being read from the stage by one of the speakers. It was both inspiring and motivating, but as I listened, I know it was something I wanted to pass on to my family.
I bought the hardback version which tells you something of the degree to which I believe this is an absolute classic.
