The beginning of the book suggests that apart from supermodels, you are an 'average' model, this is offensive. There are hundreds of extremely beautiful hard working models that don't deserve to be called 'average'.
The book also says: "You would not have a younger model for anti-ageing cream" - this is not true, I have seen so many anti-ageing creams being advertised by young faces. The book is long-winded, it could have been shorter with the same information.

This is a straightforward practical book written by a former model passing on her advice to aspiring models. Refuting the perception that modelling is a highly glamorous career, Rachel Woods explains that in reality it is a precarious one with only the minority finding fame and fortune.
Given the competition, she stresses the need to be professional at every stage from keeping fit and healthy to cooperating with one and all. Above all, she urges models to be themselves at every stage and not take criticism personally. While a touch repetitive, this book is a useful guide to those considering a career in fashion.

The Nogettes were never models, but this would have been the perfect handbook for them. Backed up by anecdotes from the author's own experience, there is common-sense advice on subjects as diverse as chaperones, agencies, props, and punctuality. Things to avoid are listed, such as indebtedness leading to financial scams, and chewing gum. Much of the advice is what parents would want to say to their daughters and sons, but coming from an independent and experienced source it is more likely to be listened to.

I bought this for my grandson, who is only 14 years old, as everyone says he should be a model, due to his keen interest in fashion, pride in his appearance and 'young boy band looks'. He has actually been reading it (or at least seemed to find it useful) and has since been practicing poses! It was also good that the book contained advice not only from Rachel, the author, but also from male models that he could relate to. The model on the cover of the book has also been subject of conversation for him and his friends! I would recommend this book to anyone that either has an interest in modelling or knows of someone that would make a great model. A great buy.

As a parent of a teenager who wants to enter the modelling world this is an excellent book, it has enlightened me on the role of the average working model within the world of the fashion/model industry. The author Rachel Woods has put her vast knowledge and experience to good use and compiled a book which is easy to understand. The book is full of very useful advice on the do's and don'ts in the industry and is a must read for the average working model. `The Model's book' is also a must have for any parent who's teenage son/daughter is thinking about embarking in the world of modelling it would give them a clear insight into the industry. I would not hesitate in recommending this book - thank you Rachel
