Don't buy it on amazon if you are buying it for a kid - multi hour wasted warning

If you are buying this for a kid under 13 buy it direct from the minecraft people or you will get into the look I got into.

I created an account for my daughter and tried to install it. At this point it demanded that I create an account for me and pay 10p to check that I was an adult. Ok, I guess. But then it absolutely would not let me pay the 10p to conform the account without buying another copy of minecraft. I obviously strayed in some minor way in the install and it went down a path it can't get out of. The minecraft support people took 4 days to get back to me and had obviously not even read my email. They asked for information I had already sent them in the original message.

I now cannot log into the accounts on the machine I want to install to (a iMac) as every time I try to log in it skips the login pace. I've cleared the cache and nothing.

This was something I thought would take 2 mins. More fool me. I've spent hours on this and guess what..

There is no apparent refund path. Very frustrated and with a 7 year old that's been in tears over this more than once.

Bought download code for my little girl to play on Minecraft. Amazon end are fine but the problems started with Microsoft and trying to download and install the game. It recognises I have the code and game but the page will not load to enable you to install the game so a total waste of money. DO NOT GET THE DOWNLOAD CODE BECAUSE MICROSOFT DOES NOT LET THE GAME INSTALL.

Well this is a review for the code rather than the game it should have given access to. On that basis it is zero stars. I took a risk by ignoring the high level of negative reviews and I was wrong to have done so. The code was rejected on entering the first character. Now I believe this is to do with Mojang/Microsoft who provide the codes to Amazon but there may be issues with the description here such as which version of Minecraft this code is for and where it needs to be redeemed. Refunded by Amazon without quibble as always but a pain overall. Avoid.

Minecraft is positively one of the best games I've ever played, and I've enjoyed it from my childhood all the way through to adulthood. The possibilities are endless, and even if you've played the vanilla game to completion there's a huge community behind it that have created countless fantastic mods and multiplayer servers which extend your game time more or less forever.

I would recommend buying the official game codes like this one instead of the cheap accounts you see on Ebay as those ones are actually accounts that have been stolen from other people and resold (which explains their confusingly low price)

Setting this up is being such a frustrating experience. If you encounter any issues when redeeming the download code (ours says it had already been redeemed), you would have wasted your money. Navigating the complicated account setup process is a nightmare (you need both a Minecraft.net and a Mojan account, parental controls are required and these are tied to your credit card being added, etc) and there's nobody to support you via the phone. Only email, they take ages to answer and when they do they just send you links to pages for you to self serve. There's nobody that can go into the back end of your account and fix stuff for you. Don't waste your money. Whilst 25 pounds is a considerable investment for parents, it looks to me like the game owners do not consider it worth supporting properly. The fact that Microsoft 10 is such a nightmare to navigate doesn't help either. My recommendation: the game in itself may be fantastic, but unless you are sure you can set it up right, do not waste your money on this.

*Avoid* - Error's included : code already used, no download option, you already own minecraft, windows store saying "download via xbox" (pc - download). Despite logging in with mojang, microsoft, xbox app and trouble shooting via search engines... no joy! Very frustrating! It did eventually download whilst left idle after many wasted attempts a long while later and i do mean a long while. Not a joyful nor recommended experience especially with dissapointed children waiting and looking eagerly over your shoulder. I suggest It should have been a realtively easy task for someone familiar with software/hardware and programs. This was not the case! - *Avoid*

Amazon were selling Minecraft cheaper than Microsoft were. Instantly stores your download code on Amazon and no problems whatsoever. Download from Minecraft official website and works on both my PC and Mac. The game is perfect for anyone, children and adults alike. Creativity, exploration, building. This Java version allows for heavy modding and multiplayer servers that you can find anywhere on the internet. The game is whatever you make of it.

I think the mistake people have been doing is to go direct to X-box and try to use the code provided in the email there. I tried that for my daughter with all the nightmares recorded by others.

What did work was staying at Amazon and going Your Account and then to Games and Software under the digital content and devices list. It showed up there with a button to redeem at X-Box.com which took me to the product but with the install option rather than the demand to pay going direct.

So for the product according to my daughters then you'd be at 5 stars, for the complete lack of how to redeem the code successfully I'd give it one so on balance the 3 stars. If this seems like too much trouble then buy it direct from the XBox store which I did the first time when I read the reviews but had forgotten about when I caved to the second and bought it via Amazon.
