Review
My son has gone from really disliking English topic to thoroughly enjoying it and looking forward to his topic each day now. This is all down to using your Minecraft books as part of our English work. So we cannot thank you enough.

This is a fantastic English workbook, it follows the National Curriculum and really has encouraged my 10 year old to want to study from this book. I have purchased workbooks in the past and my son has been reluctant to use them, it's work after all so not something to luck forward to, but this Minecraft themed workbook has turned that on its head and he can't get enough of it.
This book is aimed at year 6, totally Minecraft themed, it's split into 4 sections and follows the story of Zack and Nadia, two characters, that explore various biomes, the work is then based on this story, it's fun and exciting, so my son has told me.
The four sections are based on:
1. Transcription and Spelling
2. Vocabulary, Grammar and Punctuation
3. Composition
4. Creative Writing
All the above sections are based in four different biomes, The Forest, The Nether, The End and The Plains, each section is broken down further into subcategories. These subcategories have questions which can earn your child Emeralds which are added up at the end of the book to allow your child to trade them for fictional rewards, I'm using this to reward him with something he would like, such as a Minecraft toy.
The pages are very well laid out, with clear illustrations and wording with enough room to write the answers, the paper is good quality and pens or pencils can be used.
The answers are in the back of the book for us parents to mark the work.
I think this is a marvellous idea, mixing something that interests your child, in this case Minecraft, and creating a workbook around it that encourages learning.
I've already purchased the English 9-10 workbook and have ordered the two maths books available which are Maths 9-10 and the Maths 10-11 .
Best £4.99 I've spent and my son loves these books.
Highly recommended!

As before, there is a very loose story that stitches the book together, with characters Zack and Nadia going on adventures in a forest, the Nether, the End, then the plains. Each adventure corresponds to a different general topic- “transcription and spelling”, “vocabulary, grammar and punctuation”, “composition” and “creative writing” respectively. I found this rather clever as a way to keep the four areas distinct, and it also allows easy navigation to different areas depending on what you want to concentrate on. Kids can start at any section they want without any danger of spoilers.
The first two topics have a more traditionally school-like approach to things like grammar and spelling, and I find these very laid out and systematic. There are still the same number of questions on a page as you find in the 6-year-old level workbook, and this means an engaged 10-year-old that’s fairly confident with their spelling can hammer through these questions really quite quickly.
The sections about composition and creative writing are more unusual in workbook terms, moving away from correct/incorrect answers into broader questions about how to write clear and exciting prose. Some of the questions begin with “Using your imagination” and are a chance for kids to think freely, which is rather refreshing. For aspiring authors and storytellers, a few bits might seem just a little patronising, but if your child seems to have grand ambitions to be the next Tolkien or Rowling, there are some really useful questions in here to give them a grounding in how to walk before they can run in creative writing terms.
There’s a bit of gentle wit that creeps through in some of these questions too, not found in the younger ages, which older kids will appreciate- for example the question identifying the important difference between a sentence like “It’s time to eat Nadia” and “It’s time to eat, Nadia”.
Compared to the younger age level books, there are fewer illustrations here, and more emphasis on the questions, and space for answers, which in the creative writing sections there is rather a lot of. I’m also pleased to see that there isn’t too much on an over-emphasis on character names or mob names, and very little of the child’s time is wasted on learning to spell the names of particular zombie types or “illagers” etc. or other words that will never ever appear outside of the Minecraft universe.
When it comes to branded tie-in workbooks, these Minecraft Education books are well above average.
As a parent who home educates it can be difficult to get my son enthusiastic about maths or English as he prefers, art, crafting and science.
I showed him this book and he wanted to try it out ( great start), so we worked through a few pages reading the Minecraft story line and completing the English questions.
He became more involved in the book and was happy to use it.
The books run in line with the national curriculum but the Minecraft theme gives them the added bonus.
The books are currently priced at £4.99 which I find very reasonable, I have also bought 3 more books in this set maths 9-10 and 10-11 also English 9-10
