As the boys are getting older it’s becoming difficult to find good gifts for school friends, as well as an activity that catches my son’s attention and keeps him away from the screen. After reading some reviews I have decided to purchase the “on the go” single book as part of a gift and another one for my 7 year old son. After initial scepticism once he understood what he needed to do he just couldn’t put it down until all of it was done. In the process he kept saying how much he was enjoying it. The only other toy we get the same reaction out of is a new set of Lego. He immediately asked if he could have another similar book, so I have bought this set as it’s a better value for money than buying books individually. Once all was completed he even created his own book using the decoder symbols with his own secret messages. I am thoroughly impressed with this product! If you are still thinking whether to buy it or not - just go for it! I can’t speak for older children, but it’s a safe bet for ages between 7 and 9. My 5 year old daughter ended up using the spare book, but she enjoyed more the colouring aspect and revealing the hidden pictures rather than decoding itself. I will be buying more of these sets for my son’s friends’ birthdays!

My daughter (8) writes, “My first favourite thing about the toy is the first book (which used the special ‘magnifying’ glass to reveal secret messages) and the thing I kind of dislike is the last book because the missions are a bit harder to do.”

Her dad (me) adds, “The toy is very well designed for its demographic; my daughter loves doing the missions, using the red-lens and code-wheels (we haven’t used the secret inks yet). A minor criticism is that the toy is, perhaps, a little expensive judged only on the material cost of the raw materials included, but it has been so well-designed and thought-out, IMO it is worth every penny. Basically, this a REALLY GREAT TOY; buy, buy, buy!!!!”

Concern on possible safety for toddlers

We have reported to Amazon.it may be ok but we bought 2 of these as they looked good and were from very reputable company Montessori. However it arrived with no reference to Montessori and indeed a different description of the product and most worryingly nothing to give us safety confidence for very young children. We are returning to Amazon as they said they will investigate but cannot get back to us to confirm its safety or authenticity. However the product does look good so this is only a warning on what we have done.
