Once installed I found that it does automatically add you to the auto renewal services but that is really easy to turn off from your account. Instead when renewing I buy the same product for a cheaper price usually through Amazon and instead of having to uninstall the software to install it again, all you have to do is go to your account find the redeem retail voucher link and copy and paste your code into the box that comes up. It then gives you the option to use that as an extension to the subscription that is expiring and it will add another year (or however long you have bought up for) to it. Without the hassle of redoing everything all the time!

Bought this product on the last day of my old subscription, which I have never had any problem with. I opted for the email link to download it which came through instantly. On downloading it I was told there was a problem with installing it and to ring the help line. His took me through to a guy who knew what the link product code was and then proceeded to take over my computer. He told me I needed firewall protection and that he would sort me out. After waiting several minutes he told me it would cost another £140 to sort out the problem and would I just put in the password I use to unlock my computer. At that point I hung up as it didn’t feel right. I don’t know how much access they have to my PC now but have unplugged the internet cable and am waiting for my techie to come to have a look. Beware of this product.

I already had Total Protection 2018 on a very stable system so installing 2019 should have been easy shouldn't it

Not a chance. I downloaded the file and started the installation. It detected the former system then said it would remove it and reinstall the 2019 version. All seemed to go well. It rebooted and tried to reinstall but hung up at 39% installed. I waited and waited but it was frozen. Worst still Windows found it impossible to close it so I had to reboot and try again.

This time it seemed to install but when i tried to use it it hung on the splash screen. Since this I have a problem with Chrome which often now refuses to display pages correctly and has wiped out all my saved login details for a number of sites

I am now on my 5th attempt to install it. Online help on McAfee is useless. I am giving up and will change to another supplier.

This is the worst software problem I have had in the last 5 years

By the way, be aware that even though your contract is with Amazon who sold you the software, when there is a problem they will deny all responsibility and direct you to McAfee. In this case McAfee denied all knowledge of me as a customer and sent me back to Amazon so I lost the price of the software

Aslo be aware that as part of the sales process McAfee tried to subscribe me to an annual renewal system without my authority

Dreadful product from a dreadful company - avoid!

First problem is that unless you agree to an automatic renewal at whatever price McAfee want to charge, McAfee don't even allow you to download the product you have paid for. I believe this is in breach of consumer legislation and have reported McAfee to Amazon. You can, at a later date, turn off the "auto-renewal" function. If you forget to do this, you'll probably end up paying 4 to 5 times as much for McAfee in the second year as you paid in the first year. Also beware. Every time you download the McAfee software onto another device, McAfee switch on the "auto-renewal" function even if you have already switched it off

Next problem is that during the installation, McAfee should identify and remove competing programmes (basically your previous virus protection software). My McAfee spent more than 2 hours unsuccessfully trying to remove my Norton Symantec before I had to stop the installation and remove the Norton Symantec myself. But then the McAfee couldn't download as there were apparently still remnants of Norton on my computer. In the end, I had to phone McAfee technical help and it took them about an hour to take over my laptop and install the McAfee I had paid for.

A dreadful company which tries to trick you into agreeing "auto-renewal" and then struggles to install its own software. Buy your virus protection somewhere else.

I’ve been using McAfee for a good number of years on my PCs... and I’ve not had any reason to be concerned.
Obliviously I am generally wary of emails offering me millions in US bank accounts left for me by my Nigerian grandfather I never knew I had.
One thing I will say is - make sure you’ve switched off the auto-renew option... otherwise you’ll end up needing that money your “grandfather” left you 😂

Product worked fine. Easy to download and replace the existing installation although annoyingly you cannot do this from the mcafee account. Just use the /activate link provided when you buy from amazon and it installs fine. It does irritate me though that every year I get a reminder from mcafee to buy at a 'specially discounted price' which is three times as much as on amazon when clearly they know that they can manage the price to third parties so that loyal direct clients do not get ripped off.
