How customer reviews and ratings work
Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings, help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

An absolutely superb documentary honouring those who served in Bomber Command during WW2. Informative and thought provoking I experienced a mixed range of emotions whilst watching this, beautiful cinematography mixed with wartime footage provides the backdrop for the most important element which is capturing the stories of the veterans themselves. A beautifully crafted historical document which I can’t recommend enough!

I managed to catch one of the limited cinema showings of this the day before I received the DVD, so I have seen it twice so far.
If you are after a rivet by rivet account of the titular aircraft than you are in the wrong place- this instead is an incredibly moving and powerful telling of the experience of being on a heavy bomber crew during the Second World War, told by the few who remain. It does not shy away from the controversies that rage until this day, but presents both sides in a very thoughtful manner.
The aerial filming of the BBMF Lancaster- much of it filmed during the day but 'treated' to appear as if it was twilight/night time- is stunning. I have followed the aircraft virtually all my life and have a massive archive of documentary footage of it, and I have never seen filming of this quality, from such inventive angles. (The only niggle is that the Lanc is continually seen flying about with modern anti-collision lights blinking away all the time, and with the two top hatches always open, which the BBMF insist on doing these days)
The soundtrack is moving and very immersive, which brings me to the bonus features on the disc- there are some extra snippets of material that did not make the final film (Including praise for the ground crew, an unforgiveable omission from the main feature) and a very good feature about the recording of the music.
If you want rivets, go somewhere else; if you want heart, soul, meaning and the sheer weight of worth, buy this film.

A stunning and emotional tribute to the Bomber Boys and l am so proud to have had an uncle who took part as a Lancaster rear gunner. Glad to hear mention of the way they were treated after the war which must never be forgotten. Highly recommend this DVD to all with some wonderful aerial footage of the BBMF Lancaster throughout. Five stars!

Should have been titled " Bomber comand". Very little about the Lancaster. You can find most of the info in this documentary on line or on TV. Bought the Blu Ray version. Saw the Lancaster at the start very shortly. Many of the clips are in black and white, square format as of the time. Also a waste of my time. So So dissapointed. If you watch it you will see what I mean. Reminds me of "All our yesterdays"

Serious account of brave airmen engaged in a controversial military engagement in WW2.

The allied bombing of Germany, particularly towards the end of WW2 is controversial. This film addresses both the campaign and the bravery of Bomber Command aircrew. It is interesting to note that after the war politicians distanced themselves from campaign and chose not to recognise the sacrifice made by the aircrew. No special medal was issued to Bomber command!

After the previous Spitfire film I was expecting better than this. The film relies to much on old film clips to illustrate the veterans comments. There’s very little footage of a Lancaster displaying or even a guided tour inside a Lancaster and no footage of the two Lancasters

So disappointed with the quality of sound! Put the dvd on for my husband who is 78 so not perfect hearing I’ll admit but for him to hear the spoken voices on this film I had to put the tv volume to 100%. I struggled too. Very annoying
