I would categorise it as a Mario 3D world style game, mixed with real word elements in the game play and environment. Mario 3D is a great game, but this game something special.
Kirby’s classic abilities are all here and are all just as fun as ever, and look visually great 👍🏾. The addition of the big mouth abilities is just so funny; a real excellent and fun idea, but there’s even more Kirby also has the ability to upgrade his classic attacks. 🤩
There’s a good mix of classic gameplay elements, running, jumping , dodging and shooting; with a little touch of puzzle solving and exploring.
Not familiar with the game developers, but what an excellent job they have done, from character design, environments, music, effects, game play. I could not find a fault. Even looks and plays great in handled mode, and no long loading screen.
This game didn’t even need an update. It seems to be an actual fully tested and implemented game. This level of attention to detail is something you don’t often see with modern game releases.
Wish I could give more than five stars.
The gameplay is what you'd expect from the series. Kirby traverses through linear levels with secrets tucked away all throughout, and must devour enemies to copy their powers, solve puzzles and defeat other enemies, before reaching the goal. There are five or so levels found in 6 worlds, with a bossfight awaiting you at the end of each world. Aside from taking Kirby's core design tennants and applying them to a 3D platformer, Forgotten Land has a bevy of new features to differenciate it from every other game in the series. For one, there's the Mouthful abilities. Kirby can swallow up real-world objects and use them to take on challenges or obstacles in your way. These range from Traffic Cones that can smash through cracks in the ground, to a car that can boost through enemies and walls at high speeds, to a tap that allows Kirby to carry water in his mouth and spew it out to clear fire and sludge.
In addition to this, copy abilities can now be upgraded, allowing you to get stronger and fight the increasingly challenging foes with relative ease (so long as you have the Rare Stones needed to craft them). It's so rewarding to see abilities like Hammer and Ranger improve as the game progresses.
The main collectibles needed for progression though later levels this time are caged Waddle Dees. The more of them Kirby rescues, the more developed the main hub area of the game, Waddle Dee Town, will become. Shops, minigames, a boss arena, and other features that were previously found on the main menu of past Kirby games, are found here instead, and it makes searching for all the Waddle Dees that much more rewarding. The Town itself has plenty of replay value to offer, and even upgrades and other rewards that can be found through exploration. It's a welcome addition to the series.
Each level in the game proves that HAL Laboratory have a grasp on what makes good 3D game design. The copy abilities are utilised to their fullest all throughout the game, especially in the optional Challenge areas (many of which are hidden on the World Map). No two levels feel alike, despite sharing a similar motif, and while we do have the conventional Nintendo tropes of grass, desert, beach, snow and Lava worlds, more effort has been put into giving them more nuance and variety on a level-by-level basis. A shopping mall and city areas in the grass world, and a bay area and underground sewers/rapids in the beach world, are much-appreciated efforts in breathing new life in otherwise tired tropes. All of this is further amplified by a gorgeous art-direction. If you loved the visuals from Star Allies, then this game will provide you a feast for the eyes.
If I had to levy one complaint towards the game, it would have to be the lack of variety in copy abilities, and how some of the more iconic ones from past games were omitted here. Even so, I can afford the game some leeway, as this was HAL's first main 3D Kirby game, and a successful one at that. This minor complaint will no doubt be addressed in future games, as they use Forgotten Land as a foundation to build and expand upon. So for now, I'll forgive HAL for not including Water Kirby (the best copy ability).
In conclusion, Kirby and the Forgotten Land is a triumphant new beginning for the long-running Nintendo franchise. It's the culmination of years of prototyping and experimentation from developers who struggled to make a true 3D game in the series they would feel proud of. We've seen some of this progress in spin-offs like Kirby's Air Ride, Kirby Battle Royale, Kirby's Blowout Blast, and even moments throughout Kirby Star Allies. It's been a long-time coming, and with Kirby's 2D games peaking at Planet Robobot, and Star Allies serving as a celebration of the series' history and last hoorah, Forgotten Land was the logical next step for the series to take. I highly recommend it to veterans and newcomers to this series, and anyone with a fondness for 3D platformers. It easily takes the top spot for my game of the year, as of writing this review.

Now my 8 year old son however has played it extensively and absolutely loves it. So much so he has taken to drawing Kirby and some over characters from the game. Then my wife had to dig out her original GameBoy as she had the first ever Kirby game and we’ll once he heard this glorious piece of information he had to try it.
He completed ot pretty quickly and took pictures and WhatsApp’d them to me to prove it. Fortunately unlike it’s forbearer, this game has lasted longer and is still providing entertainment after many hours.
The game play is so much great there are settings to change the difficulty
You can build your Kirby & waddle dee village as you progress through the game!
Definitely has replay value
I highly recommend
Kirby is the best!
The game is on the shorter side but has some replay value.
Gameplay is engaging, humorous and entertaining.
Must play for switch owners
