After a violent home invasion in the remote wilds of Glen Coe leaves a family of four dead, DCI Jack Logan and his team are brought in to lead the manhunt.
But, when one of the victims is revealed to be one half of legendary 1980s Glasgow-based comedy double act, ‘Neeps & Tatties’, Logan is forced to leave the Highlands and head back to his old stomping ground.
He may have spent his career dealing with the worst humanity has to offer, but to find out who killed Archie Tatties and his family, Logan will have to confront his most terrifying challenge yet - the seedy world of Scottish light entertainment.
An Isolated Incident is the eleventh book in JD Kirk’s internationally bestselling DCI Logan crime fiction series. Perfect for fans of Chris Brookmyre, Stuart Macbride, and Alex Smith.

JD Kirk lives in the Highlands of Scotland with his wife, two children, and a number of sturdy umbrellas. Despite writing from a young age, 'A Litter of Bones' is his first novel, and combines his love of the Highlands, crime thrillers, and cats.

Every character is a joy, and I've been wolfing them down in a day's gulp for a while now. The perfect crime series if you like your police fiction Scottish, they each contain genuine laugh-out-loud moments without ever straying into formulaic.
The novel is 402 pages split into 46 chapters in the same format as usual - why change a winning formula?
The book picks up almost immediately from the end of the last novel which is good news for the longevity of the characters - avoiding any "real time" character progression problems that many crime novelists seem to encounter.
The humour that this author uses in his writing is amazing. He creates jokes and then brings them back again and again as a stand up comedian would - "where's the haggis" and "peat hill" as two examples which made me laugh out loud.
Delightfully Bob Hoon is in this story from the start with some imaginative phrases that made me cry with laughter.
Serious issues are obviously a major part of the plot as this is a multiple murder case and no one should be under any allusion that this is a comedy novel. JD Kirk uses humour as a way of the police team (and the reader) dealing with the horrors that are encountered - this seems very realistic and amplifies both elements.
As in previous books, the author creates personal challenges for the recurring characters - in this book they are predominantly medical which are very normal problems that many people face and always difficult to cope with.
The dialogue is well written. It is said using Scottish accents (some heavier than others) and a few phrases which are worth saying slowly in your head just for a joy of them!! The accents are never difficult to read though and always enhance the reading experience rather than detract from it.
