This yields a short term high in confidence and pride (after trials and errors in implementing them) but you can't get further than that in building any form of relationships(career, friendship, romance) that would last or even work in the long term.
If you are in the USA,are on the make and put no value on self awareness, this book is for you and probably worth 4stars. (Big winner)
If you are European or are looking for support in initiating conversation this book probably not for you and worth zero stars.(little loser)
I gave the paperback away to a friend and never saw it again!
It's a good book, full of helpful ideas of how to communicate well with anyone. Incorporating these tips will mean that not only will you be better understood, but you will be better liked as a friend, family member and work colleague - even if people cannot actually work out what you're doing different.
The tips are given within a story about someone who has used the communication technique succcessfully, so you can learn how to apply the knowledge.
There are verbal and non-verbal (body language) tips in this book.
Highly recommended - it's a book I go back to regularly as you can just dip in and out.
The author started out strong, with some very insightful things to do. However, as the book progressed, there were a lot of odd tips. For instance, one of the tips were to never partake in teasing - this is an odd generalisation as in many cultures, this is a form of friendly joking that is acceptable. Or this gem from "Call a spade, a spade" chapter - "Big Cats are anatomically correct ... they'll say breasts when they mean breast".
Overall, a good read, but definitely take some tips with a large grain of salt
