A pretty book but disappointing on organisation tips

Like many, I bought this book having watched the series. It certainly projects the personalities of Clea and Joanna - it even contains a quiz on which presenter you are most like and little ‘true story’ anecdotes about their experiences so it is a book as much about the presenters as their suggestions for organisation. It has beautiful photographs and numerous name drops of ‘famous’ people but is a disappointment. The sections on organising spaces if you are a fashion blogger or party planner will only be useful to the few. I had hoped for practical tips for organising your average home , eg a section on suggestions of how to use different ‘bins’ for storage or how to organise a wardrobe rather than a closet that contains more shoes than I’ve had in my lifetime ( I don’t actually have a shoe cupboard) . I expect the idea is for the reader to translate the organisation of a huge walk in pantry to your kitchen cupboards but if you are looking for a book full of practical tips I don’t think this book delivers.

I found this book an enjoyable read - it has the same humour and tone as the THE Instagram and tv show so if you enjoy those I’d expect you’d enjoy this.
It does talk about how to work out your organisation style etc but it’s much lighter on practical organising tips than their Conquering the Clutter book.
If you’re after a manual to help you declutter and reorganise your home I’d suggest Conquering the Clutter instead. I’d probably categorise this book as more of a coffee table or lifestyle book, with a few hints and tips in there. I liked this book but I’d definitely say less useful if you’re staring a jam packed under-the-stairs cupboard in the face.

I had expected that the book would provide practical advice, tips, options and suggestions where to find a variety of storage boxes, etc, but it doesn’t. For the most part it contains stories about the authors and their clients, and pictures of cupboards, shelving and storage that are not really achievable in the average uk dwelling. And while filing books etc in rainbow sequence can look pretty, how on earth do you ever find what you’re looking for?

I read this as part of a book club and was so excited as I love the show and their Instagram. I bought this book for 99p in a Kindle offer and also borrowed the first book from a school mum. I've been reading them together and you can't really tell them apart. It's more of a coffee table book with pretty pictures and a nice personality and offers little to no guidance on doing the actual task of editing and organising. Some of the sections even felt like the writer had cut off mid-thought and the flow between sections was jumpy. It felt unfinished in lots of places and like much of the main content had just been left out. The photos while pretty are basically the same as the first book and Instagram. It felt like a lot of excess is required to make the aesthetic promoted in this book and the practical maintenance of lots of these spaces is reserved for homes with housekeepers and/or additional staff. I'd sum it up as organisation for the super privileged, who won't be doing the organising or maintenance themselves. It's cute and a nice little flick through, but I'd hit up your library or borrow it from a friend. I still like the team behind it but I don't think they translate well onto the page. Perfect for the TV, not great for real life. I actually feel fairly guilty that I chose this one for book club. I hope they forgive me!

I would consider myself a fairly organised person when it comes to digital records (folders and subfolders and sub-sub folders, and tagging), but I've not really had the opportunity to apply this to my physical surroundings until more recently.
This book has loads of great ideas and tips for how to really get your stuff organised, and no, it doesn't start with chucking things away. The authors are very keen to stress that you don't necessarily need less things, you just need to organise and arrange what you do have in a better way, so that things you need/use most frequently are more readily to hand than the things you don't need as often.
They have tips for every room of the house, and how to maximise the space you have.
Oh, and, as will become obvious from the photos in the book of the end results, they have an obsession with arranging items by colours of the rainbow wherever possible - which sure makes it look good, as well as tidy.
This book is truly inspirational - now to put those ideas into practice!
