Few bits of advice:
- practice your pose with an empty bucket.
- the plaster won't fit in your average jug so use a mixing bowl.
- Mixing is messy so wear an apron and put some newspaper down on your counters.
- have some water ready to wash the alginate off your whisk, but do it quickly because it sets fast in the bucket and you need to position your hands whilst it's still liquid.
- raise the bucket onto a chair or table so your comfortable as you wait for the alginate to set. It took about 3-4 minutes for it to start solidifying and about 8 minutes till it was ready.
- Try stay still but you do have a small window at the start where you can reposition if needed. We noticed we weren't in deep enough so had to move. Because it was still liquid we got away with it.
- Don't be concerned if it looks a bit messy inside once you've pulled your hand out. I was worried we'd disturbed it too much and ruined it but it was fine.
- when ready, pour a little bit of plaster in first and swill the bucket around so it gets into all the crevices. Keep adding a little and swilling.
- once the plaster is set and you need to tip the cast upside down to get it out of the bucket, have a towel underneath as we had some water come out.
Good luck!

1.When mixing this up, 2200ml depth was not deep enough for my partners hand (male) when clasping the hand of a 4 year old.
I bought it anticipating putting two sets of hands in the bucket at once, my partner and sons, and mine and my daughters. There is defo not enough room for this.
2. There is little guidance for the plaster. It just says to mix with 650ml of water. What they don't tell you, is that it will take about 2 mins before it starts to harden too much to put into the mould. I couldn't work out why the mix seemed so stiff, as from the start 650ml didn't seem to be enough water. I went to get my phone with the idea of googling a video of somebody making these hands to see if mine looked right. I came back with my phone and before even looking up the problem the plaster had set in the bowl. Project is rendered uncompleteable and a waste of time.
I could get more plaster, but when i look at the mould that I have taken, i am sceptical that it will come out well.
It has really great instructions and guide. It was also delivered promptly with everything you need including sticks.
We had a lot of fun and were happy while using it. the three of us; Me, my wife and baby tried to use this product. But my baby was very active so there were some problems but it was a lot of fun. Even though we couldn't do this job well, a nice product came out. We had good memories.
But I cannot say that the product is very durable and very useful. If you are lucky you can get a good result. It is an easily dispersed and broken product. I wish it was stronger and more durable. But as I said, there were good memories and fun.
The most important thing I can recommend to you:
You will insert your hands first and the product will overflow when you insert your hands. So it would be great to have something hollow at the bottom of the product. It might be good to put a bin according to the instructions... it will fall off when you dump it (this is not a big deal as they can be easily re-glued).
