Hello and thank you for visiting my author page. I'm Louise, I live in Somerset in South West England & I write contemporary Gothic mysteries mostly set in the countryside close to where I live. Thrilled to have won the RNA Jackie Collins Romantic Thriller award 2021 for The House by the Sea.

When I'm not writing, I love to spend time with my family, friends, kind & funny people and animals - especially dogs, birds and whales. I'm passionate about nature, being outside, drawing wildlife, walking, beaches, fictional drama and books.

The second of Louise Douglas's books I have read, So cleverly and knowledgeably written around some sensitive and timeless issues of mankind,, thankfully openly discussed in our modern age. This lady has done some first class research or must have had first hand experience of mental health issues I particular.
Can't wait to start reading g the next book!
Very highly recommended but have the tissues ready and plenty of time as you won't be able to put this book down easily.

I found this book rather boring overall, mainly because it was too long drawn out. If the story had had more changes of pace or action it would have been better. It only got lively right at the end. I also did not like the alternate chapters of then and now, it became rather tedious.
The essence of the story was quite good , but would have been better if much shorter.

It’s a good book, it’s definitely a page turner but my dislike of the lead character grew as the story unfolded. I could not relate to this person or her actions and I was so angry at her by the end that the last piece of what should have been a cathartic form of forgiveness and our opportunity to bond with the character infuriated me! Perhaps that was the author’s intent but I don’t believe so. Really good book and very well written …just be prepared to dislike the main character

This story took a little while to hook me in but when it did I could not put it down. 3 friends. 1, Jago, who lost his parents had been taken in by an uncaring uncle. Following an altercation he was taken in by the next door neighbours, parents of his closest friend, Hannah. The 3rd friend was the daughter of of a pianist and, unbeknown to Hannah, a psycho father. The story follows their friendships until Jago and Ellen strike up a lovers relationship. The story flips back and forth between the past and present to reveal what happened.

I really enjoyed this, and had to keep turning the page. Love the way the writer created a menacing atmosphere. The ending felt a little unbelievable, otherwise it would have been 5 stars all the way. Will definitely read more of this author.

This, for me, was a page turner, and l loved the characters and the twists and turns of the plot with the added ghostly intriqe and I recommend it, but you must read it yourself. This is my 3rd Louise Douglas book, and l have loved them all. Thank you Louise!

An excellent, mysterious read that draws you in - gripping stuff

Louise Douglas is an excellent writer. Having enjoyed The Secrets Between Us , I was keen to try this, and I was not disappointed. In fact, I think I liked this even more. Once again set in the West Country, it is a story which interweaves past and present. Haunted in the present by things which happened years earlier, Hannah believes she has see someone her best friend Ellen while she is at work in a museum and yet she knows that it cannot be Ellen. The narrative jumps from present to past with each new chapter, but Louise Douglas is skilfully keeps the plot driving forward and there is never any confusion about the story which contains elements of guilt, betrayal and obsession. There is a cast of believable yet interesting characters, Ellen and her family, Hannah's adopted brother Jago, and Hannah's parents, as well as Hannah's colleagues at the museum. The author is able to build suspense and mystery in a very effective way and the evocative descriptions of Cornwall only added to the mix. The story really draws you in. It's gripping stuff and I found myself looking forward to finishing my work and being able to dive back in.
This is definitely a recommended read - 5 stars from me. I will definitely be looking out for Louise Douglas's next book.
