I’m loving how this author is bringing out the facts, the anxiety and fear plus trepidation of people finding out you are gay or bisexual in this story.
How that person needs to find out and be sure themselves first, not only that, but there’s no timeline in telling anyone. After all, we don’t announce, hey, I’m heterosexual!
At a young age here where you are afraid of your peers not liking you anyway these have other fears doubling that.
The closeness and support they give each other is so heartwarming.
Lessons to be learnt in this series of books for sure
honestly, it doesn't get more wholesome and heartwarming than this.
who gave alice oseman permission to make a couple so sweet and adorable? the audacity!
i love the ways they're so kind, gentle, and thoughtful with each other. i love how they're constantly blushing around each other. i love how charlie wants to protect nick from experiencing what he went through. i love how charlie is so observant of nick and just wants to take care of him.
also, that moment when charlie finds out nick speaks french fluently? so freaking adorable and 100% relatable 😂
i honestly just can't get enough of these two and this series and can you tell that i love it?
The characters are all diverse which I love as books should be normalising LGBTQ+ characters and giving them air time. So big up the representation. My bff, who is a member of the LGBTQ+ community has literally given her heart to this series and loves what Alice Oseman has created.
These books are super quick to read, I read both Vol 2 and Vol 3 in the same day in a matter of hours, the graphics are easy to follow and you can't help but get attached to the story. When I read these there was two weeks left before Vol4 was released. It's very rare I drop my current read for a just delivered book but you can bet that's what I did for Vol 4.
I need more of this series immediately. I highly recommend anyone of any age group reads this series. It has so much potential to help teenagers see they are not alone but also do the same for an older audience.
In volume three, we see some changes to the characters, and more mature and darker themes begin to feed into the main storyline.
Whilst exploring the historic sites in France within Chapter 4, we are faced with telling signs of a potential eating disorder, self injury, underage drinking and the first conversations surrounding sex.
With a strong focus on the events of teenage years and it’s ups and downs, we get to see more of the Heartstopper Characters aside from our main boys in this volume! With strips dedicated to Tara & Darcy, Tao & Elle - even Mr Farouk & Mr. Ajayi.
I know Heartstopper is being consumed by equally a younger audience as it is those of us outside of teenage years, and whilst that fills my heart with joy, it is from the beginning of Volume 3 onwards that I feel the content should be considered when being shared with younger readers; don’t censor it, use it to open conversations!
One of the beauty’s of Heartstopper is that it exists in a universe of healing, recovery and courage.
I am equally as excited for Volume 4 as I am melancholic; with only one more published Volume, and two novellas, it’s going to be a long wait until Volume 5 comes in 2023! However the Yearbook’s release later this year will satiate the Heartstopper need for a few months…. (All the more reason to re-binge the tv show!)
The plot is developing well, and the characters grow with each book. Heartstoppers describe the feelings and emotions of the characters well and in-depth, surprisingly well for a graphic novel with very few words. This volume also looks at how things can be easier with someone you love by your side.

The best thing for me is that I don't just adore our main characters, Nick and Charlie, but I also adore all of the side characters and am so invested in their love stories too.
There is so much representation in this series and specifically in this book we also look at eating disorders, mental health and more around the complexities of coming out. And finding out my favourite character Nick is bilingual was pretty amazing; what a great touch!
If you haven't started these books yet then I don't know what you're waiting for!
