This Open’n Stop stair gate comes with a 9cm extension to be used for widths from 84 to 89 cm. If you wish to secure larger openings (96 - 101 cm), Hauck recommend its Open'n Stop inclusive 21cm extension and for standard openings (75 - 80 cm) the Open'n Stop without any extension. Each model of this gate can be extended with a maximum of two extension extension and up to a maximum width of 122 cm. With Y-spindles, the gate can also be used for round stair railings.

Assembly is quick and easy. The metal gate is clamped between walls or in door frames with fixing screws. No drilling required.

The Open’n Stop has a double manual locking mechanism. It can be opened with just one hand and engages reliably into the childproof lock.

Assembly instructions: This product is a self-adjusting gate. This means that the gate's initial misaligning/gap on the level of the locking mechanism is eliminated by tightening the locking screws in the frame.

WARNING: Read the instructions before installation as incorrect installation can be dangerous.

WARNING: The safety barrier must not be fitted across windows.

WARNING: Never use without wall cups.

This safety barrier is suitable for indoor domestic use only.

Our hint: To secure larger openings (96 - 101 cm) we recommend the Open'n Stop that comes with a 21 cm extension and for standard openings (75 - 80 cm) the Open'n Stop without any extension. Purchased this hauck stairgate to replace an older hauck stairgate my 17 month old had figured out how to shake loose from the door frame. The 2nd day after installing my wife opened the gate and the hinge shot appart. We were lucky my child was not stood by it. Took a while to realise a screw had come out of the mechanism and lucky it wasn't found by my child first.
I would recommend staying clear of hauck products as something which is used for toddler safety should be a lot more robust

Easy to install, bought the extension as well. Had to install it a step down as it didnt exactly fit the top of the stairs due to a tricky skirting board placement, my kid is still crawling, so not a problem at the moment. But will hv to find a way around soon.Opening the gate will get a bit of getting used to . You will have to pull the yellow sliding switch and lift the gate up a tiny bit to open it depending in how tight you have installed the top screws to the sides of the wall.

This item has how been recalled but due to another lockdown and not having packaging suitable for it to send back, I haven't done it yet.

But before the recall when I was using it;
It was a nightmare to install. It doesn't fit "square" its not level once tightened, it always moves about, the little rubber stoppers constantly fall out. Tightening the screws is near impossible when you're trying to get it as secure as possible and on the last few turns. Adding the extension isn't much better, when you get to the point the gate is as secure as it can be, the bars of the extension will start to bend. The locking mechanism is also down to the tension of the gate so if it moves or becomes loose the gate won't lock! It does has a second feature at the bottom, that has a lil nodule that will sit in a hole on the frame on the gate so stops it swinging and will mean the gate stays shut but all it takes to release it, is just to lift the gate slightly. If baby grabs at the gate as they tend to do and starts shaking on it, again it will move! Sometimes to the point one side will "free up" and baby falls down! Not great when mine had to be up a few steps and it's a hard floor below.

This is a second type of gate I've tried so now onto a 3rd...probably by the time I find one I won't need it anymore! My 14m old can go up and down the stairs quite well now but it's more you want to keep them in one place and with eyes already in the back of your head, you don't want to have them in the top too when he disappears upstairs!

Some of the reviews on here are obviously written by absolute idiots. The product isn't without its faults (I hate the return spring and it's noisy) but overall it's good.

Now for the idiot comment: the product arrives with the gate not meeting the latch point properly so it looks defective and warped. Funnily enough in big writing on the packaging it says that it should look like that until you properly install it and it's not defective.
With the nature of this being a pressure fit gate, when you install this and apply pressure at either side the gap or "warped" bit starts to meet in the middle and the gate makes contact with the latch. Bingo! Took all of 5 minutes to read the instructions and install.
Good and sturdy but if that's not good enough, you can use the included pads and screw (screws not included) them into the door frame adding an additional point to grip.

That's about it, if you need a reasonably priced stair Gate and have more than 2 brain cells, this is decent enough.

We purchased this gate specifically because each of the four anchor points (2 at the top, 2 at the bottom) are individuallt adjustable, and we needed this due to having skirtingboard on the stairs and an irregularly shaped baluster at the bottom of the stairs that we needed to fit the gate to.

It works great, but the instructions aren't very good. They are the standard multi-lingual, multi-product ones where you have to work out which steps apply to the exact model you've bought, and there is very little text accompanying them. There may well be videos on YouTube that help. We purchased two - one for the top of the stairs and one for the bottom. The first one took about an hour to fit while I worked out what to do, but once I'd got the hang of it the second one took about 15 minutes!

Mine was warped, so catch didnt meet with frame and 4x threads for frame fixings missing.
Mine was to stop dog going upstairs, but if a child, I'd be fuming.
