I bought these sunflower hearts as I had almost run out of my usual and it could not be delivered for a few days as I buy in bulk, but I will definitely not be purchasing this one again. When I opened the bag there was so much dust in amongst the hearts that I did not want to use it to feed the birds. I certainly would not recommend buying this item.

The Birds Will Come!

I really can't recommend these sunflower seeds enough. The birds are literally addicted to them. I started out putting them on a window feeder as I'm in a first floor flat. I had blue tits queuing up to get at them. That was brilliant, but then it got better! I bought a feeder to hang in my porch way downstairs and amazingly some goldfinch came to feed on them. It has gone from around four gold finch to an entire flock of around 50 that come every day to feed! We are getting through seed at an incredible rate but I don't care as it is so amazing to see all these birds sitting in the trees outside my window whilst I work. Now on the window feeder we have Great Tits and Coal Tits and I've started to see Chaffinches come in to the feeder downstairs. They seeds themselves are not messy when I'm filling up the feeders but the birds drop a lot of the skins and dust so I'm constantly sweeping up after them, but it's a small price to pay for such a rewarding experiences!

This is a very popular bird food, which is readily eaten by most species and is a favourite of Robins and Blackbirds. I get most of the common birds down at the ground feeder taking the seeds away, as well as some of the less common ones if food is scarce. I find it works best from a ground feeder as it rots too quickly in a hanging feeder as those restrict the amount of seed that can be taken at a time and so supplies hang around for longer in bad weather.

This bag is small, around about the size of a ream of A4 paper as a guide, but it is pure food with none of the sunflower husks to bulk out the contents or create a mess when the seed is eaten. It is therefore a good value option, particularly when you consider the range of birds it attracts.

Be aware that it will attract squirrels; I consider this a blessing on the basis they will otherwise eat bird's eggs and small birds, so every full squirrel means less potential harm to a bird or its nest.

Larger bag sizes are available and those may offer better value however, this is a good size to try out to see if it suits your visiting birds and is also easily handled as it does not weigh a ton. So this is a practical size to try out as well as for handling in general.

Had these in a feeder throughout the winter and they were a massive draw for the local bird population (squirrels too until we got a Squirrel Buster feeder- also highly recommended). They were so popular we had quite a queue forming at times and some species would resort to avian mafia tactics (goldfinches especially) to hog the feeder while they were dining. By far the most popular seed/feed we have tried.

These seem very good quality, plump and fresh-looking seeds with absolutely no mess. The birds can’t get enough of them and all kinds of birds are attracted, tits, finches, sparrows, starlings, woodpeckers and the pigeons eat any that fall on the ground. This large-ish pack is good value even if not the cheapest, and I will certainly order again.
