Lovely little toy suitable from 1 year, however, my 14 month old was sucking one of the pegs (which most babies put anything I their mouth at that age) and suddenly kept sticking out her tongue. I expected to find a little bit a paint but was horrified to discover that the pegs had swelled and she had splinters of wood in her mouth. From all the amazing reviews I hope this was just a faulty one but i dread to think what could have happened if they got stuck in her throat!

I bought this for our one year old's birthday. I am an advocate for wooden toys both for the environment and to offer a texture that isn't plastic. The reviews looked good and it was an old toy that has lasted the test of time. But when we got it the figure dowels were smaller than I thought. My little one puts them in her mouth long ways and then crawls around. If she fell forward it would go right down her throat or esophagus which doesn't seem safe. In my opinion it would have to be used strictly under adult supervision for little ones. Plus I was expecting them to kind of bobble about but they are stationary. You can press them down but they don't actually wobble. And when you do press them down they then pop up hitting my child in the face. She isn't interested in this for more than about 10 seconds at a time anyway so I will pack it away and re-introduce it later. If she likes it then I will update this review.

I used to run a nursery and I would say over the years, the most popular toy in the whole nursery, was this one.
Now I buy it for toddlers of family and friends and it still amazes me how much joy comes from such a simple toy. It's colourful, fun, silly, educational. The children can pop the people, sort them into the correct coloured slot, the people are just the right size for a toddler's hand and if they give it a little chew, being Galt, you know it's safe. The whole thing is easily small enough to put in your baby bag to take out with you. Hard wearing, this toy will last for all the children in one family and still be handed down. Older kids and adults love it too, it's compelling. It's such good value. Can't recommend it highly enough.

Dangerous Colour Running Item

At first I was easily going to give this 4 or 5 stars as my 1 year old daughter immediately figured out how to play with it and make the sticks bounce out. The base is too light and thin though so you will need to hold it while your child places the sticks in there. Its a bit ill thought out for self play.
Now why you should absolutely avoid this item - a week after using it I decided to give it a wipe with a wet wipe. The wipe was red full of the colour from the stick! I was horrified as my daughter was naturally chewing on it for days and now can only assume she must have ingested the colour!! Please avoid this item unless you want your child ingesting cheap colour from the sticks. Really surprised this has passed any health and safety checks.

Hands down one of the best toys I've ever bought!
I bought for my 1 year old's birthday and it's fair to say that I'm planning on buying one for any 1 year old parties I go to in future.
It's such a fun toy and I love that it's wooden. It's a fantastic price and a very simple idea but bags of fun.
My son can independently put the pegs in and loves to ping them out again. He finds it hilarious. It's such a nice item. You won't regret buying it.
My 3 year old loves it too!
My photo only has 2 pegs in it but we do have all 4 - I think the baby has shoved them under the sofa! He REALLY loves this toy!

I bought this for my 16-month-old for Christmas. He loves it!

PROS:
+ Sturdy, well made, non-toxic (it's by Galt, a well-represented brand)
+ Unpredictable bounce, which makes it more fun - lots of laughing and giggles when they pop out!
+ Good for practicing coordination when getting the stick men back into their holes
+ Affordable, so good for a birthday present for a friend's child / class party

CONS:
- I'm still slightly nervous about one of the stick men popping up into my son's eye, though that hasn't happened to date. Perhaps avoid for smaller / younger babies who will might lean directly over it too closely?
That's it, and I note no-one has commented on this in any reviews, so I might just be worrying too much!

When I first got this toy for my 9month old, I thought it was a bit rubbish. It's a wooden block with 4 pegs in that when you push the pegs down, they pop out. My 9month old wasn't particularly interested in it, all she wanted to do was eat the pegs (they are too big to cause a choking hazard). However, I also have a two year old. He found this toy to be quite amusing when he pushed the pegs down and they sprang out. He also enjoyed matching the coloured pegs to the coloured slots and it's also great for hand eye co ordination.
It's a nice well made, simple but effective little toy.
...............this is an added note.....my 9month old is now One, and she absolutely loves this toy. She loves putting the pegs in the slots and laughs her head off when she pushes them down and they spring out. As an adult it's hard to see the entertainment value in this toy, but my children love it.

Was a bit sceptical buying this as wasn't sure if baby would enjoy as thought it was a bit gimmicky. I have rotated it back and forth onto shelves and different locations for well over six months, and must say it's actually a really good open ended wooden toy, just took time to warm to it's full potential.
Now 22 month old toddler gives it attention daily. I keep the coloured sticks in a separate small basket and he spends time correctly colour matching the sticks to their corresponding hole, springing, throwing and playing with them. He figured this all out on his own without any prompting, so was pleasantly excited and proud when I first observed him matching the colours correctly.
Overall good toy for engaging the different schemas, colour matching, fine motor skills and language building.
