Had a lovely time reading through this during naptime this morning - they are all genuinely five minutes to set up and I could do any of them with things I already have in the house! Teddy is still a bit small for most of them (he's only just one) which I knew he would be when I ordered, but they have given me some great ideas already for things we will start to do this year and for many years to come! I love the idea of being able to do something fun and engaging (and yes educational) and ease the mum guilt without spending hours on fancy Pinterest treasure baskets or multicoloured sand! Thank you so much for a great book, it is also much bigger and nicer quality than I expected so well worth the money! x

I'll be honest and say I'm not naturally maternal. I never liked kids before having my own - so having to entertain a small person is very alien to me! So this book is AMAZING if you're not naturally crafty or creative! I've only read bits so far but it's all seems so genius and simple! Makes you say; why didn't I think of that?! If makes me feel less guilty for not having the brain power or energy to entertain my daughter after a sleepless night. And it's not designed to give you a moment's peace, there's also games to encourage interaction and engagement with your little ones. Brilliant.

Some brilliant ideas for young kids - and the proof of the pudding is when your kid asks if they can play one of your games today! Makes me feel like a better mum. Tea consumption has increased. I have 2 boys (1 & 3). My book arrived yesterday and I was so excited to try a game straight away. I picked the scavenger hunt and pretended that one of their soft toys had been taken and we had to try and find it by following the clues. My older boy absolutely LOVED this! So much so he wanted to do it over and over again. It did only take about 5 minutes to set up and mg little boy got so much enjoyment out of it. We have tried a couple of other games too which my younger one got involved in, pass the parcel with jigsaw pieces being one of them. This was also a huge hit. Such simple ideas but very effective and things I would never think to do myself. Thank you so much for your fab ideas Five Minute Mum! They have made my children very happy and excited and they have made me feel like I am doing a good job! I would definitely recommend this book to any parent of young children!

There are clues about phonics and numeracy in the book description but I was quite surprised just how much this book is about learning. For little children, I think, there is too much emphasis on numbers and letters and a bit of the 'fun' has been lost. There are a few activities which are not dependent on cut-out letters/numbers etc but proportionally not many. I did wonder too how long it takes to set up some of these '5-minute activities' as some of the items needed are not what you would have lying around and require some sourcing or making. Also a few of them would need quite a bit of interaction/explanation from the adult which is not really the point. Having said all that if you are determined that your little kids are in need of pre-school reading and number activities then this is the book. I personally think there are lots of opportunities for counting and spelling in everyday life without contriving activities to push it. To be fair, the author does say don't try to push them if they don't want to do it and I would guess that might happen quite a lot, as children are aware of being manoeuvred into not-so-subtle 'learning opportunities'. For the amount of easy-to-set up, fun activities it contains, I feel this book is not really worth the money, examples can be found on the internet. Maybe if you are home schooling, or want to introduce short learning activities, this might be for you.

When I got the book, I was surprised by it's size and the amount of content! Brilliant value for money. It's going to keep us going for a while! And it's going to be a brilliant asset to my home. Even though I work in education, sometimes you just want to have fun with your kids and this book is definitely going to help me with this. My little boy saw it and wanted a game straight away... he even flicked through and picked one. Can't wait to find some favourites.

This book is amazing, I've followed Daisy online for a while and patiently waited for her book the arrive. It is so beautiful and I like how simple the layout is. I love the tabs so I can see what skills or age the game is for. There's a nice mix of games and explanation for why these games help with learning and development. It reads like you're speaking to a friend, and you won't need anything fancy to set up the games. I recommend this book to anyone with children, or those who look after children.
