I remember reading this book back in April 1995. I got a copy of the original Hardback version, hot-off-the-press, in a bookshop in Canterbury (England) the day before Graham Hancock was due to be doing a book-signing. Unfortunately we had to return home to London that night (and go to work the next day). I never did get to meet the man.
I now have the Kindle version, which is so much easier to read (I have a real problem with big heavy books nowadays).
Reading this book back in 1995 really sparked my interest in the subject, and has led to more than twenty years of further research into the subject. Thank you Graham; keep up the good work.
Hopefully, I will get to meet Graham Hancock at some stage, as there is a lot to discuss...

An interesting distraction

The author has an interesting writing style which draws in the reader. Some of the theories discussed are intriguing and can’t help but inspire fantastical ideas of lost civilisations. Where I feel the book falls down is the author’s style of enquiry. To his credit, Mr Hancock does comment on both sides of a theory. This initially lulls the reader into believing his arguments are balanced. A little further reading however shows that what Mr Hancock does not do is weigh his arguments. Sometimes the level of evidence for one theory is so overwhelming that one really can’t find against it, yet much of this material is buried in the references (which to his credit the author does include).

Along with many other readers, I read this when it first came to market and this reading was basically to see how the author's theories and ideas looked today as I remembered that first reading with pleasure. I think now that I cannot have read it end to end as I have already given up. SO many measurements of pyramids, so much repetition. I think that this is a book which needs photographs of the tombs, Nazca lines etc embedded in the text.

The author has got a beautiful and balanced way to describe various relevant topics alongside his personal explorations.

One day soon he, as well as many others, will be greatly appreciated for the pioneered work in reconstructing our past that it not what we think today it is.

With many significant discoveries being suppressed by the mainstream ’science’ that has ceased being scientifically motivated in the cooperative world, the new history of our past shall re-emerge revealing our origins. More to be revealed soon.

Fantastic book. Full of great insights, connections between disparate cultures, and information about a 'forgotten' part of history. I found it a little long in places, and some of the astronomy/ maths was a tricky to follow, but it's also good to see someone open to re-interpreting their own ideas as and when the evidence supports it. Well worth it.

I can’t believe I was duped into buying this. On doing some background research the author has been described as a fantasist who manipulates information in order to suit his story. What’s even worse was that it cost £9.99 on kindle & when seeking a refund, I’ll only get £0.99 back! At least if I’d had a physical copy I would have been able to make origami cranes thus bringing something beautiful out of a load of pseudoscientific rubbish.

One of the most interesting books I've read. I couldn't put it down. By the end of it I'm unsure whether I believe all of Graham's theories but it is very thought provoking and I think that there is more to the history of our planet than the majority of historians would have us believe. I would definitely read more of Graham Hancocks books.

I found this was a great book to read accompanied by a mug of strong coffee and a seat by the window. Along the way I found myself often looking up from the Kindle and starting out into the garden, thinking but seeing nothing. What I enjoyed most about this book was the way the author poses questions and encourages the reader to re-examine assumptions and received ideas about ancient history. Some of the answers he puts forward certainly are intriguing but whether they are correct or not is less important than that the questions were put forward in the first place.
