I'm a mature Mum, who started playing Lego type games to distract me from a chronic pain condition. I now have over 100 games, including Far Cry 2,3,4,5 & now 6.
What happened?? This game took so long to be ‘tweaked’ - I was definitely expecting more.
If you're not a Far Cry fan, or new to the concept, you might think it's great & really enjoy it.
If you've come to expect certain things from Far Cry, you'll understand how poor this game is!!
Right off the bat it is still a far cry game. It's not gonna reinvent the wheel, but the weapon variety (resolver weapons, unique weapons & the weapon customisation) is definitely a nice upgrade from the somewhat boring combat of 5. The return of machete takedowns is also a nice addition, alongside the fact that all takedowns are available from the get go (no skill tree) meaning that from the start there's no hindrance to going full stealth.
This game feels like an amalgamation of 3 & 5. I can definitely see myself trying to 100% complete it
There's also no tedious progression bar for each region leading to a "kidnapping" meaning you can do as many side activities as you want before progressing with the main story, which is actually quite fun with the wide variety of collectable weapons, gear and more.
The game only has 1 Coop related achievement aswell which is relatively easy to do through the random invite system. So if you liked the gameplay of 3 & 4 and the look of 5 then you should like this one.
(Also runs quite well on the PS4 slim, no slow down and the detail is still great. The main difference you'll get with the ps5 version is 60 FPS in comparison to 30 on the PS4 and better draw distance)

The choice of the two main characters is very limiting and to be honest I dont really have any connection or liking for either of them which is a big letdown. The male main character is pretty boring actually and the baddie doesnt have anything like the charisma of baddies in far cry 3, 4 or 5.
As has been noted by other reviewers lots of bugs - baddies and vehicles suddenly spawn from nowhere and things can be seen static in the distance and dont move until you get closer. When working at distance with a sniper rifle often your kills have respawned by the time you work your way closer - really annoying ! The backpack weapon that you constantly run around with on your back which basically shoots down all the baddies and their helicopters and tanks in one hit is stupid. I kept finding myself asking, just let me recce from a distance then plan my attack and use stealth and cunning and take my time to overcome the enemy. Instead I'm forced into full-on attack and melee and use of a stupid auto weapon that wipes out everything all the time - to be honest its boring after the first couple of times.
The Map and World that you can explore is immense and impressive but they've really concentrated too much on this and forgotten the amazing characterizations and gameplay of 3 & 4.
Oh dear - Far Cry 6 and The Last of Us 2 - what a letdown this year has been.
The best bit about them all is that development of your character as you go along that is mostly on your hands as to how you play the game, whether you put the work in side quests, crafting, hunting etc. I really enjoyed the points you earn to go towards unlocking those new skills allowing you to progress as the game gets harder.
This is missing all of that. I'm left with a character that doesn't feel very connective as there isn't really any progression, the storyline and world feels empty and cold and the other characters are just unlikeable with nothing about them.
I'm finding the whole thing tedious at the moment and even more frustrating is the fact the games enemies seem to be progressing along difficulty wise much quicker than my own character. I've had helicopters everywhere since the beginning, tanks from almost the end of the first big mission and nothing balanced enough to fight them with.
The enemies are literally everywhere I move. Even the wild animals are more difficult.
I'm starting to wonder if it's a big glitch (of which there are many... don't get me started).
This reminds me of what happened with fallout which was another of my all time favourites. Such a shame!
