Feeding Rabbits the Correct Diet
|
|
|
---|---|---|
Feeding rabbits the correct diet85-90% of a rabbit's diet should be feeding hay or fresh grass. Feeding hay and fresh grass are really important. They are essential for dental health as rabbits' teeth continually grow and need wearing down. The indigestible fibre also helps to keep the rabbit's gut moving. |
Given the choice… rabbits will selectively feed just like childrenMove away from muesli. When offered muesli style diets rabbits are likely to select the high starch and sugary components of the food, leaving the higher fibre pieces. This is called selective feeding and causes an unbalanced diet. Selective feeding can increase the risk of dental disease, obesity and other health problems. |
Treats are good for emotional health.Excel Nature Snacks can be fed in small amounts, left in housing or puzzle feeders to keep your rabbits occupied or sprinkled through feeding hay to encourage foraging. Treats should always be fed in moderation. |
Important information
Ingredients:
Analytical Constituents Beneficial Fibre 63%, Crude Protein 8%, Crude Olis & Fats 1.8%, Crude Fibre 33%, Crude Ash 7%, Sodium 0.00%. Composition Timothy Hay 100%. Excel Long Stem Feeding Hay is a natural field-grown product produced in the countryside. As such although all possible precautions are taken it is possible for extraneous matter from the field to find their way into the product without detection.
Directions:
Remember that ideal quality feeding hay and/or grass should make up 85-90 Percent of your rabbits’ diet and should be available at all times. Rabbits should also be fed a small portion of Excel nuggets, the occasional Excel Nature Snack to add variety and encourage emotional enrichment, and a small amount of leafy greens each day. Fresh, clean water should always be available. Please talk to your vet for further information. Always ensure you are monitoring your rabbits’ weight to ensure a healthy weight. If you are ever unsure you should seek veterinary advice.

However, I needed some extra in between so purchased exactly the same product from Pets at Home and oh my goodness, the difference!
It is long stem which I love as it creates a lot less mess but compared the the PAH bag this hay is not great at all, it isn’t long stem imo. Whereas the PAH bag was really long and dense. I tried another bag but again , short stem, dusty, messy, not as advertised on the packaging!
Really disappointed , I’ve now cancelled my subscription and will continue to buy from PAH, although slightly more expensive. This makes me wonder if Burgess sell this on Amazon as a slightly inferior product therefore explaining the cheaper price? Who knows.

I switched to Science Selective Timothy Hay 2kg which is excellent quality but needed a cheap emergency supply as I ran out this morning and my Science Selective order was delayed, so I ordered this thinking it might be better than the Dandelion one at least since it literally says long stem on the bag.
I received this bag in the photo this evening (Prime delivery) and it's the same brown chaff as the Dandelion hay - it'll do until the Science Selective arrives but I won't be ordering Burgess products again unless they improve their quality.

The bag is full of Finely Chopped, Thin, Brown/Yellow, Dusty Rubbish !!!
As for the reply of Weather Change I have never heard so much rubbish in all my life.
If this was the case it would have happened before.
My guess is there has been Supply Issues due to Covid so rather than lose Sales any old hay as been bagged up....
Complete Waste Of Money !!!
More importantly there are a lot of disappointed Bunnie's !!!
Come On Excel Sort It Out ASAP !!!
This hay on the other hand is just like fresh hay you'd give to horses and what I used to get from my stables for my rabbits.
It's done wonders for my rabbit's stomach too! She's always had a problem with producing too much of a runny poo but Since eating this she's no longer had fecal problems and is producing much healthier solid drier droppings! It's almost a miracle for us as after 5 years it seems that this hay has sorted out a major hygiene problem with her poo!
