She can’t recall what started her collection. Maybe it was in a fragment of conversation overheard as she cleaned a sink? Before long (as she dusted a sitting room or defrosted a fridge) she noticed people were telling her their stories. Perhaps they always had done, but now it is different, now the stories are reaching out to her and she gathers them to her…
When Janice starts cleaning for Mrs B – a shrewd and tricksy woman in her nineties – she meets someone who wants to hear her story. But Janice is clear: she is the keeper of stories, she doesn’t have a story to tell. At least, not one she can share.
Mrs B is no fool and knows there is more to Janice than meets the eye. What is she hiding? After all, doesn’t everyone have a story to tell?

I really loved the location, the characters and the plot.
I felt as though I was being carried along to every house the main character visited, the description was so thorough. The dog she walked sounded absolutely adorable too.
I kind of felt sorry for the main character being married to such a selfish awful man, but she triumphed in the end.
Very very lovely style of writing.
I enjoyed reading this book although I struggled with the plot.i have had a lot on my mind, so the problem may not be the plot of the novel, it may just be me. Although, I think I were to read it again I would enjoy it a little more and perhaps garner more from the story.
One thing I must say is that the characters are real and vivid, and the old woman reminded me of the manipulative old woman in '' Away irh the Penfuins''. I am rating this book 3 out of 5 stars, although I would not be surprised if a reread would result in a higher rating.
Love a proper ending!
