A scandalous double homicide opens the psychological case files on Alex Cross...
When a glamorous socialite and a high school principal are found murdered, the shocking double homicide dominates tabloid headlines.
Detective Alex Cross knew both victims well, especially Kay who had been his patient once. And maybe more.
Alex's former Metro Homicide Partner tracks the slain principal's final movements to Alabama where Alex investigates Kay's past. They discover that although she had many enemies, all of them needed her alive.
The more the investigators push, the more resistance they find, and Alex is left facing a desperate choice between breaking trust and losing his way.

Review
Behind all the noise and the numbers, we shouldn't forget that no one gets this big without amazing natural storytelling talent - which is what Jim has, in spades. The Alex Cross series proves it -- LEE CHILD
James Patterson is The Boss. End of. -- IAN RANKIN
I wrote, "Along Came a Spider is the best thriller I've come across in many a year. It deserves to be this season's no. 1 bestseller and should instantly make James Patterson a household name." A household name, indeed. -- NELSON DEMILLE
Every once in a while a writer comes along and fundamentally changes the way people read. He or she is so bright, so innovative, so industrious that what they envision and create becomes the measure by which all others are judged. In 1993 one such writer - James Patterson - began to do just that ... James Patterson is the gold standard by which all others are judged. -- STEVE BERRY
[Alex Cross] has become one of the greatest fictional detectives of all time, a character for the ages. -- DOUGLAS PRESTON and LINCOLN CHILD
Alex Cross is a legend. -- HARLAN COBEN
Patterson boils a scene down to the single, telling detail, the element that defines a character or moves a plot along. It's what fires off the movie projector in the reader's mind. -- MICHAEL CONNELLY --This text refers to the paperback edition.
From the Back Cover
When a glamorous socialite and high school principal are found murdered, lying half naked in a car, the shocking double homicide dominates tabloid headlines. Kay Willingham was a well-known philanthropist and ex-wife of the US vice president. Randall Christopher was a respected educator with political ambitions, as well as a wife and family.
Alex Cross knew both victims well. Especially Kay, who had been his patient once. And maybe more. Cross is left grieving, questioning who would want them dead, and why.
While Cross's former Metro Homicide partner John Sampson tracks Christopher's final movements, Cross and FBI Special Agent Ned Mahoney travel to Alabama to investigate Kay's past. They discover that although Kay had many enemies, none of them had a full motive.
In a world of trouble, corruption, and secrets, Cross is left facing a desperate choice between breaking a trust and losing his way . . .

The story itself was fast paced and the ending excellent. I did not find the outcome predictable at all, kept me going right to the end.
My favourite books of mr pattersons are The Murder Club series but the cross ones come a close second.
Thankyou for the pleasure you have given me over the years.
It did not jump about.. in the sense that the storyline remained straightforward and not mixed-up. I love James Patterson's eloquent style
Great Alex Cross thriller who shows his human nature as well as his inquisitive and investigative style through the authors narrative.
Recommended to all that love reading thrillers! this was "cannot put the down the book but turn over pages till the end" kinda book .
Written by James Patterson in his inimitable style which I love.
If you appreciate how a character grows and love the challenge of foreseeing twists and turns, then this is right up your street!
There was a point, as a side story opened up, that I was moved to tears by the emotions I shared with the characters.
Can't wait for the next one now!
