It would be wrong to say I dislike this as it is just as described . Geoff and Lulu much prefer the allure of my dining room table and continue to scratch that at every available opportunity despite spraying it with anti cat orange scented malarkey. I have tried to entice them to the post however they are having none of it So do I recommend it.... it’s quality , it is durable but Sadly without cat allure It is an ugly addition to my hallway already littered with useless s..t

Time will tell how resilient it is to her claws.

Update 31st March - unfortunately this product is no where near as resilient to scratching from one of my cats than a previous paper scratching post. Very disappointed how quickly the post disintegrated
Will not be buying another one of these

I have a 10 month old ragdoll cat and he is getting larger by the day. He has a cat tree which is covered in scratching areas but he just didn't seem to want to use them much. On the cat tree the largest scratching post is about 20cm. My cat likes to stand on his back legs and stretch and scratch against the sofa arms, so I looked for a scratching post that was taller. I found this one and thought I would give it a go. So glad I did!! almost immediately my cat was stood on his hind legs and scratching this post instead of the sofa! He uses it now every day, and sometimes even likes to climb it like a bear climbing a tree! Very sturdy, it hasn't fallen over once even when he does a running jump at it. Really recommend this!

Good budget range scratcher

Purchased for £12.49.
Easy to assemble and it's the height stated in the listing, so no complaints.
Unless a scratching post advert tells you that the base comes with weights that are twice as heavy as your cat(s), or is twice as wide as the post is tall, then by virtue of its shape, it will be prone to being toppled.
The base is made of chip board though, so it's not difficult to tuck it under something, add weight or fix it in place.
The post does affix firmly to the base which is about the limit of what needs to happen with such a simple design.
As with most (of not all) scratching posts, after some months of use, you'll need to replace the rope ("string" might be more accurate) but it's a good chance to buy some decent thick rope that will last longer.
I wouldn't penalise the seller for this as it's clear from the images that it's the standard light stuff supplied.
As over priced pet supplies go, this is adequate for the price range.
If you tend to only look at the pictures in listings (i.e. the big superimposed cat) instead of reading the details (16" post), then your life will be filled with posting scathing reviews and you don't really have time to care for a pet.

I bought this for our cat when her present scratcher (background picture 1) became bald, it's the first of this type she has seen and has yet to use it as she doesn't seem to know what it's for despite demonstrations from the human family. It's quite tall, not so thick and I do think it might pull over if she ever has a real good go at it as she's a big cat, so one edge of the base is tucked under a heavy piece of furniture at the moment. It was easy to assemble and the parts are well made. I think most cats would love it, but ours is a bit of an oddbod.

Decent sized scratch post

I purchased this as it was good value for a large scratch post. The post arrived quickly and was actually quite easy to assemble. The 2 screws needed were included in the package - you will need a cross-head screw driver to fit the post together.

ASSEMBLY
This was straight forward as all you have to do is pass the screw through the base and screw one half of the post to the base. You then hand-fasten the double-ended screw to the lower and upper part of the past and tighten until secure. Job done.

STURDINESS
The post is very sturdy and there is no risk of your cat knocking it over. My cat happily climbed to the top with no problems at all. The only negative comment I have is that the top of the post is hollow - which I only found out when I tried to staple a toy to the top using my staple gun - this was but disappointing.

OVERALL
I'd recommend this as a cheap scratch post but do be aware that it doesn't come with any toy attached and one can't be attached to the top (only into the side).

Bought this for our eight-year-old adopted kitty whom plays like a kitten, and my goodness she loves it! For whatever reason, she was a bit afraid of it at first, but with some encouragement she started using it. She can stretch up to her full height on this, which is exactly what I wanted. I attached part of an old teaser toy to the top so that she has something to play with, too! My only complaint, and it may just be specific to my mental kitty, is that with enough force it definitley could be toppled over. My cat weighs 3.8kg, so she's not the heavier side of things. I would say that this scratcher definitley fulfills its purpose.
