Life has been slowly improving for DCI Jack Logan lately. Happily settled down with the woman of his dreams and a dog he begrudgingly tolerates, things are finally going Jack’s way.
But, could all that be about to change?
When a sadistic killer begins picking off victims on the streets of Inverness, Jack’s boss decides to bring in some outside help. But the new team member is an old flame from Jack’s past who isn’t quite ready to let him go.
And, as the dead bodies rack up, the Happily Ever After that Jack has been building for himself might just be the next victim to fall…
City of Scars is the 14th books in the multi-million selling DCI Logan Scottish crime fiction series. Perfect for fans of Ian Rankin, LJ Ross, and Stuart MacBride.

The development of the team is spot on, the plot of this book was pacy and twisty and I laughed out loud from start to finish. This was one of my favourites by far.
I'm gushing more than blood out of a stabbed man's ... stab wound... but what can I say, great series!
Meanwhile we get a catch up with the detectives - Tyler and Sinead have some news to deal with, DI Ben Forde goes on a date with a ‘mystery lady’ and Hamza struggles to balance home and work life with all the extra hours of the case.
This is the 14th DCI Jack Logan book and it definitely didn’t disappoint! Plenty of dark humour, Tyler up to his old tricks again and we even hear from Bob Hoon?!!
I enjoy JD Kirk’s books, his writing style really appeals to me and it’s easy to follow the story and relate to the characters.
Another amazing one - keep it up JD I can’t wait for the next one! Another easy 5 Star read, would definitely recommend!
Someone is viciously killing successful Asian businessman in quite a gruesome manner so it's not all fun and laughter. However, the quality of the writing here means the story can be serious and fun at the same time, without losing any of the overall seriousness of the situation.
I hope this series keeps going on forever.
After such a catalogue, one might think that the stories became somewhat repetitive but this is far from the case. The characters are very well drawn and their lives are intertwined and moved on from book to book in such a way as to make them worth reading about in their own right: they are clearly equally important to the author as the crimes and the investigations.
The quality of the dialogue among the characters is exceptional and often very humorous indeed, whilst maintaining a crime story that has as many twists and turns as a twisty turny thing.
I found it difficult to put down and had to ration myself not to finish it all in one sitting.
I hope there will be more from DCI Jack Logan and his colleagues, not forgetting Bob Hoon.
P.S. there must be another Hoon on the way. Please.
