Feeding Rabbits the Correct Diet
|
|
|
---|---|---|
Feeding rabbits the correct diet85-90% of a rabbit's diet should be feeding hay or fresh grass. Feeding hay and fresh grass are really important. They are essential for dental health as rabbits' teeth continually grow and need wearing down. The indigestible fibre also helps to keep the rabbit's gut moving. |
Given the choice… rabbits will selectively feed just like childrenMove away from muesli. When offered muesli style diets rabbits are likely to select the high starch and sugary components of the food, leaving the higher fibre pieces. This is called selective feeding and causes an unbalanced diet. Selective feeding can increase the risk of dental disease, obesity and other health problems. |
Treats are good for emotional health.Excel Nature Snacks can be fed in small amounts, left in housing or puzzle feeders to keep your rabbits occupied or sprinkled through feeding hay to encourage foraging. Treats should always be fed in moderation. |

The packet on the right in the photo is the packet I bought from Pets at home, the bag on the left in the photo is the one I received from this seller.
I knew as soon as I opened the bag that the smell, look and feel of the product was off.
My guinea pigs were the real telling! They were picking through and barely eating this. I found a feather and some twigs in the bag and not one Dandelion in sight!
If I was not able to get to a shop or could not afford to get a new bag then my pets would have continued without an essential part of their diet!
Disgusted, this is not what they are advertising

The hay itself is soo tough, hard and sharp. That it has actually pieced my 1 year old guinea pigs eye!!
Took him to the vets. Didnt think it would be that bad. got put on medications for a few days. Went back for a follow up and it turns out the hay has badly pierced the entire eye of him. He is now BLIND in one eye and needs a operation to remove his eye over a piece of hay!!! It was that badly damaged over that keeping his eye would be detrimental to his welfare. He is 1 years old!
Please do not buy. for the sake of your furbabies. :(
wish i could no star it!

You have to be careful with guinea pigs burrowing into hay as sharp bits can scratch their eyes. Feeding from a hay rack can reduce this risk, as can putting hay flat on the ground instead of in a big bundle. Because this hay is quite soft, it's a lower risk.
It has lots of dandelion flowers in it, which both bunnies and piggies love. The hay is vacuum packed into a plastic bag and it can be a bit tricky to get out. But there is much more hay than it looks like there is. I think it's great value and every bit is eaten, so there is no waste. In summary it's a great all round hay and I highly recommend it.
The bags sold on Amazon contain so many tiny pieces of hay and a lot of dust that despite the lower price I feel like I am paying more as I end up throwing away a lot of the product because the Guinea pigs won’t eat the dusty remain which make up a huge amount of the content.
I don’t recommend it and would advise people to buy it from tan actual pet shop.
