About the author

Bestselling author CHRISTOPHER LLOYD began his career as a journalist with the Sunday Times newspaper. Then, while camping with his family, he had a critical realization: Even with a 1st class degree in history from Cambridge University and experience as a science writer, there was so much about the world he didn't know. So, he set out to write books that zoom out and tell the big stories, opening readers' eyes to how seemingly unrelated events fit together and showing them multiple perspectives on the world, all in highly engaging prose and matched with lively illustration and photography.
Now, with more than 20 books in print, some in over a dozen languages, Christopher divides his time between writing books for adults and children and delivering lectures and workshops to schools, literary festivals, and a wide range of other venues around the world. Environmental activism is shoe-horned in at every opportunity as well as all the typical ‘woke’ talking points that we’re bombarded with constantly in this day and age. The gender ‘pay gap’, inequality, colonialism etc etc.
Maybe I was naïve to expect anything better from Britannica.
Bland, yes - woke, no.
It’s a decent addition to your bookshelf but definitely not the best kids encyclopaedia out there.
And yes, climate change is real my right wing comrades.
Large multi volume encyclopedias have long since had their day, but smaller books like this offer a "taster" of information, and make fantastic gifts for young, inquisitive minds... Or perhaps in the hope of helping to nurture such a mindset, where none currently exists.
You can't go far wrong with this book, it's a quality publication, with clear and easily understood content. It made a perfect gift for my pre-teen son... I even enjoyed flicking through it myself.
5 stars out of 5... Excellent.
It's a good book, just a shame that it follows the general trend for disposable products that don't last.
