Review
"R. V. Johnson has crafted a fast-paced romp in the vein of Piers Anthony's Robot Adept series, his characters are quirky yet fall into the easily recognizable patterns for a good fantasy; a hero out of her depth, a damsel who may or may not need saving, a crotchety old crone, a warrior too quick to charge into battle and an evil that's not entirely what it seems to be, all of which combine in a rich tapestry of a land divided."
"Wow! What a journey! I almost feel bereft because it has come to an end. Beyond the Sapphire Gate by R.V. Johnson is a must read for all fantasy/science fiction lovers out there. Fantastic in-depth world building, vivid scenes (like watching a movie), real life colorful characters and very imaginative creatures (who are either there to help or to impede the travelers journey)."
"I won't bother with a synopsis. it's been done several times here and I have nothing to add except that there are twists and turns around every corner. This is one of the best epic tales I have read this year! I can't wait to see what happens next..."
"Author R.V. Johnson did a wonderful job creating this alternative universe. I especially enjoy the rich imagery that brings the reader into the tale. The relationship between the sisters had an authentic, believable feel to it. Johnson understands the big picture is in the details. The author did not skip anything in the creation of this satisfying adventure."

This is great for a teen reader hooked on science fiction to a much older reader like me.
The twists & turns in this book often come as quite a surprise, especially the twist at the end which I thought very clever & had no idea what was going to happen. All the characters are strong & believable, they fit perfectly into their roles & place in the story.
I can't recommend Beyond the Sapphire Gate highly enough. If you love a strong story, with strong characters that you car about, with a clever, well written & powerful plot that has you guessing you really should read this book.
Title: Beyond The Sapphire Gate: The Flow Of Power
Genre: Science Fiction, Fantasy, Fiction
Synopsis: Beyond the Sapphire Gate is the fascinating world of Astura, a world where a frothing, river of magic addicts those who use the power it holds. Indentured to a private artifact collector on a dying world of high technology, Crystalyn naively activates a gateway. The temptation to touch it is too much for her sister Jade. Extending a fingertip into the mist, she vanishes. Crystalyn follows, stepping into a vibrant world infused with magic and those that Use. Aided by symbol magic killing her with each use, the defining line between good and evil is not as clear as Crystalyn once believed. The Dark Users want to help her, the Circle of Light wishes to use her. The War of a Hundred Seasons makes her choose. Half a world away, equipped with a seemingly useless ability to read auras, Jade embarks on a harrowing journey to escape the Dark Citadel with her soul intact. Propelled to Astura by a devious assault, Garn has only two desires. Reuniting family and destroying those enforcing his servitude. Some magic should remain untouched.
