After doing some research online Autosol was recommended and I gave it a go. After some more elbow grease the polish has done the trick and restored my car’s exhaust back nearly to its original glory (see photo).
I used a regular cloth that quickly became very black, but it’s suggested you could use really fine wire wool, which I imagine may help reduce the amount of effort required!
Although I will never understand why people don’t regularly clean their exhaust when they clean their car, at least I now have a method of remedying on any cars I acquire in future!

So far I have used it on chrome parts that were badly rusted and now look like new, steel cooker that looks as new with nice mirror finish, steel exhaust that with the help if this and fine steel wool finally started to get their reflectivity back through thick layer of dull rusty muck and oxidised aluminium that now looks as shiny as steel mirror.
One tip - as it cleans oxidation the paste can turn black and even though it wipes of with ease of metal and other solid surfaces it might stain carpets, silicone and other soft or porous materials. Just mask off the work area if such are involved.
I love this product so much I got few for my friends and family. Recommend to anyone.
I have always used polishes intended for specific metals in the past and was a bit doubtful, even though I had seen it in action.
Having armed myself with the usual protective gloves, table covers and several cloths I started on the usually lengthy and very dirty process of cleaning my large collection of antique brass ornaments and picture frames.
Immediately I noticed the difference as previously I regarded this as a "filthy job"! The main difference was far less of the black mess on metal surfaces and cloths. I left it on for a little while amazingly only needed a single cloth to polish all to a brilliant shine without the usual need for several cloths to polish off any residue.
My brasses are still bright after 3 weeks, though I did treat the surfaces with protective Renaissance Wax. So far there is no evidence of any need to re-polish as all are still very bright and no sign of the slight dullness that usually starts to appear after a few days.
It’s great for shining up anything metal on the motorcycle including chrome handlebars etc
I’ve also used it on the boat for any shiny bits
This time I needed some sort of abrasive to bring back the condition of some very faded and oxidised headlamps on my 57’ plate Toyota Prius
Autosol worked an absolute treat on the headlamps and I did it by hand just using a couple of microfibre cloths, one to apply and one to polish off
Don’t worry that Autosol will scratch your headlamps because it just won’t
I previously used ‘Lamp Doctor’ to do the headlamps but saved a bit of money and just got Autosol instead and it’s every bit as good if not better than Lamp Doctor
You really don’t need a lot of elbow grease to cut through the oxidation and the yellowing of car headlamps using Autosol
I used very little product to do both headlamps as well as the rear light clusters and have most of the tube left to do anything on the motor bike that might need a shine up
I totally recommend Autosol for so many uses, it’s the best!

Used for a number of things I can recently think of..
Wife has a couple of old Singer sewing machines that we are slowly getting back to use. They have some metal trim, Its been great to clean up the tarnish/oxidisation. Sometimes I've used a polling bit on a dremmel to get into the nooks and crannies.
I shave with old style 'double edge' (or DE) razors, and they quickly get clogged up with dried shaving soap. Every now and again I give my current razor a good clean and then a polish up with autosol. I think they are chrome plated, not show chrome, more of an industrial, long lasting finish.
I've been restoring some old fishing reels that are cast metal under the old paint finish. After stripping the old paint off (using a paint stripper), I've used autosol and a lot of elbow grease to bring the bare metal to a polished finish, which I'm really pleased with. (to the extent I don't want to use it on the fishing bank and get it dirty!).
Finally, we had a rust mark in our stainless steel kitchen sink where an empty can of baked beans was left over the weekend and left a rusty circle. Autosol removed it, and blended the area in with the surrounds so it was unnoticeable.
Solvol is great to bring a lustre to metal, including removing oxidisation, but its not going to repair damage, so if chrome has been pitted or flaking, it's not going to magically replace it, But what it will do is clean it up and make it a lot more presentable.
