Sometimes you have to let your heart rule your head....
Cherry, Maggie and Rose are mother, daughter and granddaughter, each with their own hopes, dreams and even sorrows. They have always been close, so when, in a moment of impulse, Cherry buys a gorgeous but run-down pub in the village she grew up in, it soon becomes a family affair.
All three women uproot themselves and move to Rushbrook, deep in the heart of Somerset, to take over The Swan and restore it to its former glory. Cherry is at the helm, Maggie is in charge of the kitchen, and Rose tends the picturesque garden that leads down to the river.
Before long, the locals are delighted to find the beating heart of the village is back, bringing all kinds of surprises through the door.
Could Cherry's impulse purchase change all their lives—and bring everyone the happiness they're searching for?
Escape to the glorious Somerset countryside with this joyful and uplifting story of family, love and hope.

Another masterpiece. Thank you. When's the next due???
She writes with vivid detail about home decor and food. I love the way she describes the countryside and our yearning to be back in the rose tinted years of our childhood - not to mention in the warm embrace of an English pub done well. It was fantastic to see a book built mainly around women, all succeeding in their own right, from the energetic grandmother Cherry to her granddaughter Rose, who grew and developed in the book.
There's Cherry, who's been left a nest-egg by her mother who's recently passed away. Cherry buys a run down pub in the quaint village she grew up in, but the impulse purchase causes problems within her marriage. Is the purchase too high a price to pay with her marriage at stake?
Cherry's daughter Maggie is a widow, she's lost her soul mate/husband a few years earlier and is not ready to move on and find a new love. She's good at her PR job but she wants to try a new venture and joins her mother in returning the pub to its former glory. Will she ever learn to love again?
Rose is Maggie's daughter and together with her young daughter, Gertie, becomes a part of the family trio in restoring The Swan and transforming it into The Three Swans. Rose lacks confidence and direction in her life. Will her grandmother's impulse purchase change this?
A whole bunch of other female characters enter the narrative, each with their own back-history, strifes and dreams.
It's an easy read about women overcoming their fears and realising that they're more than capable of achieving their wildest dreams.
This book is about 3 women, a Grandmother, Cherry; Mother, Maggie and Granddaughter, Rose; of course, there's Gertie too, Rose's daughter. Cherry buys her childhood local pub after her Mother dies, she great at renovating property and feels she can make the pub great again. After events in Maggie and Rose's lives, they decide to take the plunge and help Cherry.
However, Cherry's partner (Maggie's Father) is facing his own crossroads, retirement and what to do with his life. He thought it was mapped out, with Cherry and he going travelling, but she buys the pub. Is this the end of their 50+ year relationship?
Full of love, understanding, changes and helping others, I was totally immersed in the book, and didn't want it to end. I'm hoping they're may be a book about the 2 other women who play a big part in the book, Chloe and Winnie? I can dream...
I'm going to go back and re-read all the books I have by this great author, then buy others.
This is a must read book, and one which I will go back to time and again.
