Amber Kindle Edition
A modern time slip of power, greed and deceit.
Where some people will stop at nothing to get what they want, regardless of what may come.
But with strong, determined women, the past is always waiting…
For what they seek, is seeking them.
When best friend Dani suggests a break, Jess jumps at the chance to finish recuperating away from the shadows of the place she no longer thinks of as home. Excited to return to the seaside town of childhood holidays and cherished memories, Jess couldn’t be happier.
Until the desperate plea of a voice calls to her. A faraway voice connected to the amber pendant she knows she has to buy. But as the voice evolves, and images manifest, she remains oblivious to the motives behind Jason and Nat’s interest in her.
Conflicted by her judgements, she finds herself alone as she attempts to discover who is trying to speak to her and why. But in her mission to solve the connection between the voice and the amber pendant, she travels a dangerous path littered with lies, deceit, and greed. One where the secrets of not just this past are waiting to surface.
Bronze Age Norfolk
With the passing of her mother shrouded in mystery and her home lost to torrential floods, Amara has no choice but to leave with her father for their new settlement.
Not long after her arrival, the womenfolk grow wary of her. The chieftain is watching her and the constraints of this strange land leave her isolated and afraid.
In her bid to find answers, she turns to the gift entrusted to her care by her mother. The gift she believes no one knows she has. The gift that now brings her disjointed visions. When a warning given by old Ambrose matches that of her insights, she seeks to uncover its meaning, discovering not only the truth of her mother’s passing but the power of her own arcane gifts. And the evil fate that awaits her. If she is to survive, she knows she must protect herself in the only way possible. By creating a sigil. A sigil carved into amber.

Historical fiction isn't always my preferred genre of reading but this one sounded so intriguing, especially seeing as we get a modern story arc as well. I found the plot to be well written; there was lots of mystery and intrigue which kept me turning the page and it is clear that a vast amount of research has been done by the author in writing this book. The chapters are short and flowed well as they shifted between the timelines.
The dialogue wasn't quite to my taste; and so I felt myself pulled out of the story in parts but that is just my own personal preference and I think many people would enjoy it. The descriptive elements of the writing were done well and allowed me to really picture the scene. After reading quite a few fast-paced books recently, it was nice to be able to sit and enjoy a slower unfolding of events instead and I did enjoy the twists revealed throughout.
Amber is told from the POVs of Jess in the modern day and Amara in Bronze Age Norfolk. I liked these two strong female characters and enjoyed discovering how their stories are entwined. I would have loved to hear more from Amara's timeline and from the side character of Ambrose.
You can tell that a lot of research went into the chapters that were set in the Bronze Age. I enjoyed the atmosphere created in the descriptions of the settlement and really felt the claustrophobic environment that was Amara's world.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys time slip/historic fiction. It is filled with mystery and intrigue not to mention some really good twists.
Well it was certainly worth the wait. Amber does not disappoint.
I was not sure where it was going at first but was fascinated by the details of North West Norfolk and it brought back many memories of holidays.
However, once the historic chapters started it became a detailed vision of early Bronze Age Britain and some of the possibilities of their lives at this time.
The chapters pull you forward and in the end I could not have anticipated where the plot would take us.
I would thoroughly recommend this book, especially if you know Norfolk and if you are interested in the historic links to the Bronze Age.
This was such an interesting read and I know it has been a highly anticipated read by myself and everyone on tour. @instabooktours, you’ve done it again with the amazing tours!
I thought this was a brilliant read, excellently written and captivated the readers. It was not my typical read but never once did that falter my attention from this book.
I loved how we jumped back and forth from a modern time to in the past and the connections we were presented with the characters.
You have written such a flawless pierce of work and should be very proud of yourself. I am over the moon to have been on tour with you Sharron, thank you.
I loved how the story unfolded over the two times and the connections of the two female characters in both modern day and the bronze age. It's one of those books where you're just saying to yourself 'one more chapter' to see what happens next.
It's a gentle unfolding of the story, rather than an action packed race, so a perfect easy, intreguing read. The twists and reveals throughout keep you hooked, the characters strong and the ending is definitely dramatic.
Definitely an author I'll be following for sure.
I loved Jess and Dani's relationship to begin with and I really liked Jason and Nat, but there are some huge twists!
A well written book 🥰
I really like how this author writes, her style is enticing and exciting.
I like the character descriptions and other descriptions throughout this book.
This is a wonderfully mystical book with a then and now aspect and the main 'now' character is trying to find answers about something she has in her possession and it's really interesting.
