Can't say much about the durability of the pressure guage, it does feel like it would last 12 months but not a lifetime, but you can forgive it at this price.
For the price, this is astonishingly good value, and perfect for a first car or bike. Everyone should have one and everyone should make regular use of it. No excuses at this price, just a shame there are so many people around not willing to take care of the 4 small patches of rubber that could we'll save their entire families life.
Buy one, use it.
The pressure gauge, however, just as many others have stated, is woefully inadequate for any real use. After testing it for the sake of it I found the measurements to be anywhere between +/-5% and +/-10% of the actual value (verified with a slightly better dial gauge). Those tolerances are fine for emergencies and short trips, but any sort of long distance will likely put unnecessary wear on your tyres.
On the plus side, it was a nice surprise to get 4 x pressure end-caps in the package as well. Not in the description, so maybe I just managed to win in the Amazon supplier lottery this time around!
- Easy to use
- Basic accompaniment to any home garage
- Came with a bonus of 3 x end-caps (I can't guarantee that you will though!)
- Reasonable construction quality
- Pressure gauge is pretty poor
- Description probably needs updating
It's a fine kit to get you started and to encourage you (or anyone else for that matter) to regularly self-service your vehicle as simply and painlessly as possible. However, if you require something more accurate for pressure readings, look for a calibrated digital gauge or calibrated dial gauge.
0 stars for the pressure gauge and two stars for the tread depth gauge. Don’t buy if you want an accurate reading of your tyre pressures as it is cheap plastic tat.
A must have for your car, about a fifth of the price of a digital one without the draining battery worry.
The tread gauge is just as good, easy to use and easy to read.
Overall a really handy kit to have to check tyres regularly, before a long trip or before an MOT. Just remember to check for cracks, bulges or out-of-date tyres as well.
