That the plates indicate a new driver!

My son passed his test 4 weeks ago and had his plates on his car since then. As a driver for 40 years it made me realise I should be careful around cars showing these plates as they are still learning how to drive, but on now their own. I have also seen them on the motorway on a couple of cars and I applaud that they are letting people know they are learning a new skill.

They sent me a set of red L plates in error. Not a problem, I sent them back and reordered and the refund, as it always is with Amazon, came through practically before I'd returned from posting them.

Anyway, these are very good plates but unfortunately, although they have full magnetic backs, my car, like a lot of modern cars, is mostly made of some sort of plastic material so they don't really have anything to magnetise to - I have to stick them on with several of those sticky silicone pad things that you use inside the car to stop things rolling about. Not the fault of the plates at all, just the way it is these days. Would still recommend them though and I've given full marks for adhesion because it isn't the fault of the plates that I'm trying to attach them to something they're not designed for.

Trusting the AA I purchased these from Amazon and am happy to report that they are brilliant- they are easy to stick on, stay on firmly at any speed, and are easy to remove. Highly recommend 😊

Rubbish. Might as well write a green P on a post it note and stick it on your car. Honestly, second outing we lost one. Both journeys were about 20 minutes, and my daughter has used red magnetic L plates for 6 months without any problems. 2nd day in and lose one of these. They are so flimsy and thin, with hardly any stick after one use. And this is the reply I got
"Hi, sorry to hear this, they need to be on a clean dry surface, which is fully metal, most cars have some plastic / composite panels, when placed partially on them they will come off. We do have these tested, wet and damp surfaces prevent good contact". Spend a bit more and get some decent ones, not second rate crap.

Update: bought these ones, MUCH BETTER QUALITY

Clear, easy to see and use plates

Plates are of standard size and symbols. Has a clear ‘New Driver’ wording underneath the P in case ‘used drivers’ have forgotten their Highway Code if they ever even read it in the first place.
Magnet on the back is strong enough for use on motorway and doesn’t blow off even when on bonnet flat against the wind. Also easy to take off with enough thickness to get some finger purchase to peel off revealing zero damage to car or plates. Top notch, just what we neeeded.

My daughter passed her test {she lives away at Uni}. She came home the day after passing to pick up the car she’d bought. I went out with her & I know we live in a relatively small Welsh village but we went everywhere because she was driving back & was concerned about people getting inpatient with her! Why do people do that? We all had to learn! The only place that I could find them was Amazon. I ordered them on next day delivery to her address & she just put one on the back to let people know & maybe have a little patience with her. She still has it on, I believe it’s magnetised but she’s a very confident driver now so may not need them much longer. Thanks to Amazon she had peace of mind.

I bought these P-plates for my sons car, I saw they were an AA product and that the star rating was high so foolishly decided I didn't need to read the reviews, the first time we used them the car was wet so the bonnet one flew off but we just had to drying the bonnet for them to stay on well but thats where our problem started and if I'd read the reviews I'd have been more aware, we found if you leave them on for any length of time the paint weirdly fades underneath the plate, this was a problem someone else had left feedback about but I didn't see that review, the lads car is red and he had a white square in the middle of the bonnet, I tried t-cutting it and polishing it and it didn't make it any better, looked for advice on the internet and the only advice I could find to rectify the problem was to get the bonnet resprayed, which we had to do at a large cost.
Don't know if this is colour specific but I would highly recommend removing the plates after each journey, I'd also add that nowhere on the product details or the packaging is it recommended to remove the plates to prevent this problem.

These are great. I've witnessed two separate older family members in the past use P plates on their vehicles with pretty awful results, so I was glad to find these. One of them bought the sticker type, and put one on wrong so it was deformed and then complained when they finally removed it that it had left residue on the car. The other bought something similar to this one, only non-magnetised, and then used those small powerful magnets to hold it in place, which saw no end of mockery for the poor dear.

Happy to have found these ones anyway. Absolutely no fuss with it, magnetised back just slap on your car and away you go, they feel really well made and high quality, which you wouldn't expect at a glance from the price. You get two in a pack, they take less than 30 seconds to apply and position, and won't come off the car again until you (or someone else, sadly for me) removes it. Storms, heavy rain, car washes, you name it, the plates won't budge until someone makes them.

Can't recommend them enough. I doubt there's a better alternative on the market anywhere, to be honest.
