How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings, help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsUseful to keep in the boot and small enough to ...
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 September 2018
Useful to keep in the boot and small enough to not get in the way.

Power cable (cigarette lighter style) is a good length to reach front and rear tyres (have to switch door/window you put it through to switch sides). It can also be coiled (has to be neat though) and fits in to a compartment on rear. Same can be said for airline but it coils into a recess on one end. The end of the airline has a screw type adapter and creates a good seal to valve.

There is a LED torch on one end that has proven useful when I lost the valve cap in the dark, however it doesn't have (or really need) a very long range.

The LCD display is lit and easily legible and can be switched between psi, BAR, etc.

Plug it in, connect airline to tyre, check current pressure (reasonably accurate but prefer a dedicated gauge for final check), set desired pressure and hit on button. It seems to inflate to a pressure slightly above set pressure, possibly to allow for any leakage as you unscrew airline and then stops the pump.

The pump will remember the last set pressure so if you're doing multiple cars (bloody family) double check what you need.

As for reliability, I've used this numerous times over the last 12-18 months (occasionally multiple times I one day) it's still going strong. If you're running it for long periods or repeatedly allow it to cool down as the airline will get quite hot. Heat production is a natural side product of compressing air.

A good pump for a good price.

UPDATE:-
Nearly 3 years on and besides picking up a few scratches and one of the small rubber pads on the back (act like feet) vanishing it still works perfectly.

I've seen a few identical pumps with the only difference being the branding, not sure if quality is the same/worse/better but if you look around you might find a good deal.

1.0 out of 5 starsPot luck connection!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 August 2019
The AA tyre inflate connector was incompatible with the 12V socket on my Vauxhall Astra h 3dr mk V. No amount of coaxing would get a connection to power. If it fits your car good luck because for what it is it is reasonably good value.
Just a shame in my case that a product with the AA name attached to it does not fit a popular UK vehicle!
All my other items attach without a hitch to the socket.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unreliable

Does not show true reading. I thought I had pumped my tyres up to 40psi (according to the tyre inflator) so as I could take a heavy load. However when I went to deflate my tyres and checked with a draper manual pressure gauge, the tyres had not been inflated above the normal pressure. Waste of money.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't know why AA would put their name to this dreadful waste of plastic
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 October 2020

Firstly - it looks like cheap rubbish. However, I gave it a go. I used it once, which was extremely difficult as the lead is not long enough to reach from the lighter socket in the car. I had to use another car parked alongside it. How stupid is that?

Trying to get a connection in the socket was painful. Kept turning off. It wasn't the socket, as I tried 2 in my car, and they are fine. I finally got it working, and it did 3 tyres before displaying an error code 'ERR'. Nothing will get rid of that code.

Even if it worked, the design is appalling. It's one of those screw-in nozzles instead of a lever. So when you put it on, it lets out air, and when you take it off, it lets out even more air. Not only that, it is painfully slow. To increase a tyre from 26PSi to 32PSi took over 3 minutes.

It really is a god-awful bit of kit - the sort that makes you angry about the waste. Even if it hadn't broken after one use, I'd be returning it as unfit for purpose.

4.0 out of 5 stars All round great tool and really simple to use
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 September 2016

Very compact, easy to use air compressor which I use weekly to make sure my tyres are kept at their optimal inflation for fuel economy. This device makes it very easy to achieve. The digital display is clear in bright sunlight and the torch feature is handy in case you need to use it in the dark or to display a warning SOS to others.

I have a large family vehicle and the length of the power cord isn't quite long enough to be able to pump up the rear tyres using the power socket in the front but I do have a socket in the boot so it's no problem but could be for others with only one socket. An extra metre would be perfect!

The length of the hose is just right in case you have parked with the valve at the top, the unit will sit nicely on the floor, I've seen other models where the hose isn't long enough and the unit is then dangling and bashing in to the wheel so this is a plus for me. The only downside with the hose I feel is that the screw fitting onto the wheel can be a little stiff so you have to be conscious to get the hose off the tyre quickly after inflation so as not to lose too much air from the tyre.

All round great tool for a great price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little machine

We bought this as a replacement for our old tyre inflator which only had PSI and BAR settings. This one has the addition of KPA. With the old one we had to keep converting the tyre pressures to get the KPA setting. The machine is easy to use and quickly inflates the tyre. It is also quite small so easily fits in the boot of the car. I would definitely recommend this item.

This is a basic model where you cannot switch between bar and psi. It is only in bars. You can’t preset a pressure and have to watch and stop manually. A Very basic meter and over priced. Got for one with all features above

I originally had a digital ring inflator for many years, but stopped working. Bought this one as it looked pretty similar in design, and worked with ease. Set you pressure, connect to tyre valve, and press the on button. It auto stops when inflated to chosen pressure. Simple and brilliant

1.0 out of 5 stars Who is the actual supplier of this faulty product?
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 25 November 2021

The motor failed to work when the inflator was attached to the tyre valve. Perhaps it was an application problem. It is supplied on Amazon by the 'AA Store'. Further phone enquiries with the AA revealed that there is no product support or indeed any working ' AA Store'! I was asked to put my problem on an email. I did and I never got an AA reply. I then found in the instruction sheet that the product was made and supplied by Saxon Brands so I phoned them without getting any human reply. I emailed them and again got no reply.
Deprived of any help I returned the product for a replacement. Having never returned anything before to Amazon I accidentally also reordered the product! The replacement did not work either so I ended up returning three and am waiting for a refund. I bought an identical looking inflator from Halfords that was twice the price but at least works!
I guess I have learnt from this that it is better to return a product than try to understand it better.
