5.0 out of 5 stars An insightful book and a riveting read
By Rangr on 3 December 2020
A riveting book by an accomplished writer. There's a brief bit of drag owing to complex details between pages 500 to 550, and perhaps less enthusiasm to cover the difficult bits of his first term of presidency. Yet, the rest of the book is easily understandable to even a cursory follower of American politics like me.

Obama has a done a great job of arranging different concurrent threads that ran through his presidency into separate chapters. However, I find some tit bits, for instance, about Obama’s India visit, don't really fit in with the larger narrative of some of his chapters.

I like his narrative technique, clear writing style and self effacing humour. Some of his long sentences are also fascinating, just for its structure.

Obama's faith in an America that treats all its people equal, lets them achieve their dreams, moves beyond its sins, a promised land of equal opportunity is reasserted several times in his book. An insight into Obama's thought process, both before and during his presidency, is the most compelling reason for anyone to read this book.
